Subject: Does this nn work for this name?

For the name Emmanuel/Immanuel (I would pronounce it "ih-mann-you-el")...

I dont like the nn Manny at all, so is it possible to use Noel as a nickname?
My reasoning for this is that the ending of the name, -nuel, is pronounced nyou-el, so stretching that sound a little bit makes it no-el.

So what do you think, does it work?

[edit] From everyone's responses, I now see that not all names need to have nns. I agree now that Emmanuel should stay whole. :)
