I watched "Julie & Julia last night and the name of Julia Child's best friend was Avis. I'd never heard this name before, but I sort of like it. Thoughts?

I dislike it. As RoxStar mentioned, it's a rental car company. That's what first comes to mind. Then, it's an extermination company that's coming in second. (To be fair, I don't even know if one named Avis exists. That's just how it sounds to me.)

I love this name. I have known two.
The first one would be 80 or 85 now.
The second, who would be about 60 or 65, pronounced her name to rhyme with avid. I don't care for that pronunciation.
