Oh, what does the book say about Yula? I just came across this name the other day, and while it's not my style at all, I'd still like to know what it means.
From this list, I like Iskra, Sian and Severin. And kind of, sort of Mehitabel. In a very GP kind of way.

YulaYula is listed as a variant of Yuliya. Other forms are Yulka, Yulinka And Yulenka.

Thanks, Sofia!I asked because I discovered Yula in a name book (that I'm not too impressed with) as an Irish name. The author claims that Yula is a variant of Ula and I was wondering if your book agrees.Edit: Ula, as in Ula the alleged Irish name, that is. Or at least, the book says so.

I just checked the listing for Ula in this book and it is listed as Celtic, with Yulla and Eula as a forms of it.

LisleIf you'd be so kind, I am interested to know what your book says about Lisle. I realize here it's a male name, but it was also my great grandmother's middle name, which she was always called by, and I've not ever been able to learn where it came from, other than finding that it's a place name as well as a type of fabric, and the thread that fabric is made from.Liv, Bonnie and Paulina are my favorites from this list.

The book says:
Place name: Lille, France, centre of the French textile industry. Lisle thread, a strong cotton used for gloves and stockings, was originally made there. This name may also be related to Lyle. Other form Lysle.

Thank you; appreciate the info. :)

I can add that a South African woman golfer, who must be in her middle-to-late sixties by now, has the given name of Lisle. I've never heard of another one, but nor have I seen people react to it with startled disbelief.

I like: -Judah--although maybe too tied for me.
-Klaus--but maybe not realistically.
-Rio--though isn't that a parrot?-Iskra--the meaning is pretty neat.
-Romina--never saw this before and I actually quite love it.
-Trinity--a GP I wouldn't even use in stories.

I love Iskra, Liv and Sian.Iskra is a guilty pleasure, I couldn't use it in North Dakota. I think, though, that I'll use it for a cat in the future. I love the meaning - Spark.

MALE: Alford: An Alford plea means you acknowledge there is enough evidence to convict you beyond a reasonable doubt without your actually pleading guilty.
Bethel: Ugly sound, and anyway, since it sounds like a mix of Beth and Ethel it seems even worse on a male.
Chaparral: Even romance-novel cowboys aren't named this.
Deon: Prefer Dionne for a girl.
Epifanio: No.
Friedhelm: Has anybody even in Germany been named this in the last seven hundred years?
Gilson: No.
Hazard: Put a big warning sign on him.
Judah: Zippety Judah.
Klaus: Kind of sinister sounding.
Lisle: Icky posh way to misspell Lyle.
Massey: Very common surname around here, don't think it's attractive at all, too much like messy.
Natko: Eastern European nachos?
Pradeep: Robot noise?
Rio: Not really a name to me.
Severin: Severed.
Tiger: Silly self-important childish nickname.
Vatroslav: Klaus's and shadowy boss.
Wilkes: Not a first name. FEMALE:Alcina: Not horrible but I still don't like it.
Bonnie: Cute.
Cheryl: Not terrible.
Domina: A dominatrix.
Etana: Ugly.
Iskra: Even uglier.
Kristinka: Stinka.
Liv: Super-hipster version of Olivia?
Mehitabel: Me hit a bell.
Nausikaya: Nausea.
Paulina: Of all the paul names for girls this is the only one I like.
Romina: Ugly.
Sian: Don't care for Sean for a boy and don't like this.
Trinity: Hate it.
Višnja –see Visnja: No.
Yula: Beulah, Yula and Etheleen.
Željana: No thanks.
