I like Holly. Why would a Poppy need to be born around christmas, it's just another plant name and people use names such as Lily, Poppy and Rose without consideration for when the child is born in relation to when plants bloom so why should Holly be any different.

In the US at least holly plants bloom in the spring and their fruits mature in the winter, some plants their fruits mature in the autumn or summer instead but not holly. You should see little white or green flowers on all the holly bushes right now. Holly is a year long living plant so I definitely agree with the fact that Holly works as a name for every part of the year, as you said even Poppy would work for a girl born in the winter, even if poppy's are dead in the winter.
