Joyce?
If Grace can rise to star status, why is the not dissimilar Joyce still lagging in No Baby's Land?
I've never been a fan of Joyce, but it's been used since the Middle Ages and so has history behind it.
Also, it's a name that my cousin is considering as a middle name for baby Emma (though I vastly prefer Emma Joy)Is Joyce destined to rise again?
WDYT?

While Grace (even though I don't really care for it) seems forever classic, Joyce seems terminally dated. I'd much rather see Joy being used.

If you compare the popularity (http://www.behindthename.com/top/search.php?terms=joyce+grace), you can see that Grace was popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Since Joyce was so popular in the mid-20th century, it will take longer to come back, if it does.

ditto, plus mI think it's as simple as that. Joyce will take another 30-50 years to come back, if it ever does.My stepson and his wife used Joyce as a mn for their girl born last year, but that was because of family tradition. The grandmother is Brenda Joyce and mother is Angela Joyce. Baby is Elizabeth Joyce.

Probably not. It isn't that similar to Grace. They're both one-syllable names that end in the s sound and they're both old, but that's about it. Grace is also a noun with religious conotations, and that helped bring it back.
Joyce has none of those. And most people probably feel as you do, that they like Joy better.

I don't know if it will rise again. I think it's unlikely, at least for the near future. I know I love Grace, but I'm very lukewarm on Joyce, and I really only like it at all because I have a positive association to go with it. That OYS sound is just unappealing. Even the way my mouth moves when I say Joyce is kind of unpleasant, imo. Joyce comes out all puckered and weaselly. I feel the same about the OYD sound in Lloyd or the OYT sound in Hoyt. Joy may be the only "oy" name I come close to loving.
