Clara
As a huge Doctor Who fan I am very excited for the new series to kick off, and I am especially looking forward to see how the new sidekick shapes up. Her character is called Clara and the more I see the name the more I am finding myself warming to it, however while I find it visually pleasing I still think that the "Cl-" beginning is awkward and not very nice sounding.
What are your thoughts on Clara? Clara vs Klara? Clara vs Clare / Claire? Thanks! :)

I like Clara but prefer Claire partly because of Clara's ambiguous pronunciation.
I pronounce Clara clair-uh the same as my mum (when referring to the "Dame Clara Butt" tulip hybrids) and the clah-ruh alternative puzzles me because I think clair-uh is the traditional Brit one.

I love both Clara and Claire. If I had to pick just one, today I'd go with Claire but tomorrow it could be different.I really dislike Klara. It looks spiky and tryndee, even though it's a real name. I don't care for Clare either. It looks oddly incomplete.

I don't mind it. I sometimes use it as a mn in combos as a substitute for Claire when it flows better but I'd never consider it as a fn. It sounds so soft and delicate to me and I don't like that very much in names. Claire is my favourite of the lot- it is my cousin's name and I plan on using it as a mn to honour her one day. I like Clara over Klara.

BTN loved Clara last month (according to the top 10s). I really liked it when I was younger (when I was obsessed with the Heidi miniseries). It's okay now; I'd like to see someone else's kid with it, but not my own. I like it a lot better than Claire though. Clara is my preferred spelling.

I think Clara is lovely and the sound of it is pleasing to me. I don't like Klara though, it looks horrible to me. I also much prefer Clara to Claire as I find Claire a little dull, while Clara is whimsical.

I like it a lot but I could see it becoming the next Ella or Ava. It will definitely get common. I prefer Clara over Klara. Clara is much more elegant, it makes me think of ballet dancers. Klara is heavy and makes me think of a cow. I dislike Claire but I like Clare. I prefer Clara over Clare.

I love Klara! I have a problem with C spellings in most names, so this is no different. Klara is relatively common here and I know a super cute 5-year-old who's made me love the name even more (she has siblings Franka and Matko).ETA: I pronounce Clara as KLER-ə and Klara KLAH-rah.

I do think Clara is quiet classy, sophisicated and vintage chic. It would be nice as a first or a middle name. Unfortunately Klara, does not have the same appeal. Since it was Hitlers mothers name.

I didn't know that!
Wow, thanks :)

Your welcome. I only know it, because I'm studying modern history at the moment. I still like the name and I guess you can't blame the mother for how the son turned out??!!

I really enjoy Clara (I don't like K, so Klara is fine but not nice in my books) and I think it's better than Claire and 129% better than the awful Clare.Sadly I didn't enjoy tonight's episode or any of the last series. I know, I know - dumb fan rage. The concept was okayish, but the actual result - arggh. Mediocre is being kind. I also doubt that I'll like Clara - the character. She strikes me as a bit Martha-ish, and I hated Martha for reasons. She was... no. I was really hoping for someone more like Donna, or even in the vein of Amy, but nope... someone whose attitude reminds me of Martha. Great. Ick. I could be wrong and either way, I doubt it'll change my attitude to Clara any more than Amelia changed my attitude to Amelia (meh) or Donna to Donna (hate the name, love the character a lot, still bitch about how they wrote her out). It might mean an increase in Clara being used, a bit like people saw Amelia on Dr Who and thought 'hmmmm... Amelia'. But all that's off topic! I like the name, tis all.

My childhood best friend's older sister had this name. She is very pretty, smart, artistic, and sweet. I have good feelings about it.

I LOVE the name Clara! I think it's beautiful. :) I prefer Clara to Klara, Claire to Clare, and Clara to Claire.

I love both. Claire has more of a sophisticated edge. Clara is softer and warmer in comparison. As a first name, I would be more inclined to use Clara since it isn't as popular as Claire. As far as spelling goes, I prefer Claire to Clare. I don't really like the look of Clare. It doesn't look feminine to me. I pronounce Clara KLER-ə (like Claire with an additional syllable) and Klara KLAH-ra. I prefer Clara. It doesn't sound as harsh to me, but I like both Clara and Klara.

I am so excited for this too...20 minutes :D :D :D anyway, i definitely prefer Clara to Claire, even though it is more of a mouthful! The name has a nice meaning too :) I don't think i'd use it as a fn, just because there are other names that i prefer, but i'd consider it as a mn. Also, no to Clara spelt with a K :D

I prefer Clara above all the others. It sounds fresh, bright, clean, and clear. I personally wouldn't use it, but it's not a bad name.
