Oh no, not overstepping at all! Thank you for chiming in! I got the names from scanning Wikipedia articles so I'm not surprised things got a bit muddled. I never even suspected Bettlerbub was a profession name!
Yeah, the whole witch craze was full of horrible sad stories like that one. I read in one article that things got so bad in some places, several villages were left with only one or two female inhabitants after it was all over. Not even children, or even babies, were spared. One girl was tortured and killed simply because her father, a suspected sorcerer, had raped her. Another woman was burned alive despite being pregnant: they decided it was "the devil's child", because she had been married 14 years thus far without any children. So awful.
