Thoughts on these names?
Hello, could I have some feedback on these girl names please? Surname is one syllable, sounds a bit like Dews, and I'm in England if that has any bearing on popularity or anything else. Thanks!Freya
Eva
Erin
Eliza
Seren
India
Louisa
Fern - I like it but not sure it goes with the surname
Sabina - just started liking this
Tamsyn
Kerenza
Davina - I love it but don't think it goes with the surname

Freya - I used to really like this, but now every slightly dodgy-looking dad in the park seems to be yelling it, along with Maya and Isla. It's still nicer than either of those, though.
Eva - like, much prefer to Eve
Erin - I kind of like this too, it's neat and unfrilly
Eliza - nice with the last name
Seren - it's okay. This time of year it always reminds me of a cheesy Welsh Christmas carol.
India - it's pretty, but it does have a 'days of the Raj' thing going on, and I find myself wondering what people from Indian backgrounds make of it
Louisa - like. Also nice with the last name.
Fern - I'm not sure it goes either, but I like it
Sabina - pretty
Tamsyn - better without the y.
Kerenza - like, but I think I slightly prefer the s spelling
Davina - I quite like it with the last name.

Freya - a favorite of mine, though I think the popularity in the UK would put me off of it if I lived there.
Eva - another fave though I much prefer Eve
Seren - beautiful, simple, yet, uncommon
Fern - yes! I LOVE seeing this on other peoples lists. In fact I think I'll bump it up higher on my own list. It's very sweet and unassuming but modestly classy.
Sabina - very pretty. Never given it much thought before but it's loads better than Sabrina. It's really unexpected without being unusual, akin to Seren. Id be delighted to meet one.
Tamsyn - Tamsin is really growing on me, though I hate the prospective nn of Tammy. Tamsyn just doesn't look right
Kerenza - I prefer Kerensa but honestly it just doesn't even sound like a name to me. It sounds like a word, like charisma and credenza.
Davina - not my normal cup of tea but it's a pleasant sight. I think it sounds fine with your Ln. Eliza and Louisa are too "slithery" for me, or something. All I hear is "lies" and "wheeze". And I get a very stereotypical Cockney vibe from them - I can't help but say them in my head with an accent. Erin I dislike for personal reasons but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. India has a pretty sound but a try-hard trendy vibe.

Freya - I guess it's okay.Eva - neutral towards this name. Popular right now, but I don't love or hate it; I never met a girl with this name.Erin - Sweet name that, for some reason, brings Ireland to mind (maybe because "Erin" pretty much means "Ireland")Eliza - Really don't like this name. I keep pronouncing it "E-lie-zah". I prefer Elisa. Seren - Not too sure about this name.India - Neutral.Louisa - Neutral.Fern - Like it, but not enough to use on a future daughter.Sabina - Really hate the pronunciation. Almost too Arabic-sounding for me.Tamsyn - Hate the spelling and pronunciation.Kerenza - Neutral.Davina - Neutral.

I adore Louisa and Davina and like Eva. So glad someone else here likes Davina. :-)

Thank you!:-)

I basically like all of these except for Davina. Tamsyn I really like but I prefer Tamsin. My favourites are Freya, Eva, Eliza, Seren, India and Fern. Lovely list!

Thank you!:-)

Freya: I like it, it's dynamic, but I would never use it in real life. Probably because it sounds pretentious. IDK.
Eva: I prefer Ava.
Erin: I love it. I think it ages well, and some might say it's dated, but that doesn't bother me. If I were having a daughter, it's one of the few names I would put on my "serious" list.
Eliza: Namby-pamby. Weak. Pretty in a basic sense, I guess, but it has no character.
Seren: Better than Serenity, but not better than Serena.
India: I love the sound of it, but I would never use it myself.
Louisa: May Alcott.
Fern: Meh. Not my thang.
Sabina: I always want to stick an 'r' in there and make it Sabrina. Sabina sounds half-assed.
Tamsyn: I prefer Tamsin, but it's nice.
Kerenza: Eh, it's a bit TOO girly. No like.
Davina: Sounds like the name of a chick with a screw loose. I don't know why I think that.
vote up1
Lol - chick with a screw loose!I don't get a weak vibe from Eliza though. In fact, the opposite, funny. I get where you are coming from with Sabina. I used to think exactly the same but it's growing on me now. Thanks.

Freya - not crazy about it,
Eva - my top girls name right now
Erin - not a fan
Eliza - cool
Seren - dislike it
India - bad personal associations, other than that it's one of the few place names I like
Louisa - nice and 10x prettier than Louise
Fern - don't like it at all
Sabina - ehh...seems a bit icy
Tamsyn - something the -am and the -n in the same name seems...off
Kerenza - awful awful awful awful....
Davina - McCall?Sorry, normally my responses would be a bit more 'wordy' but I'm just really tired right now...
vote up1
No worries, I don't need wordy! Thanks for replying!

Freya - I sort of like it, but it seems a lot better suited to a dog than to a woman. Dunno why I feel that way, but it keeps it off my list. It's also fashiony
Eva - ee or eh va? It leaves me cold.
Erin - I like this, I think it is really natty and sharp. I guess it's dated - here anyway; seems like it might not be where you are... yet.
Eliza - nice name. I feel it's a little bit slick sounding for my taste personally but it's nice
Seren - eh. Seems like it's just a spin on Sarah.
India - gutsy name to use. I like it but wouldn't use
Louisa - nms, don't like the sound. Of course it's very safe and decent
Fern - It'd sound clipped with a one syllable surname, but I don't think it's bad. Fern is a good name
Sabina - is ok. It's wrecked for me because of Sabine (German with a Z sound and 3 syllables) which I really like, and because of Sabrina which I think is much richer sounding than Sabina and makes Sabina seem to be missing something.
Tamsyn - What is that Y for? Is Tamsin too pedestrian? I don't care for the Y. I kind of like the idea of a Thomasin called Tamsin. And the name Tamsin is cool by itself.
Kerenza - pretty name.
Davina - unusual and pretty. I don't think there's a problem with the surname. Alliteration makes names more memorable.

Eva would definitely be Ee-va. I've only heard it that way except on foreign people.A couple of people have mentioned the similarity between Seren and Sarah. It hadn't occurred to me. Maybe in an American accent they sound more similar? Saying that, you've just made me realise I've never actually heard it said out loud! So I hope I'm pronouncing it properly. Might be somethin I can see I'll have to rethink Tamsyn. I like it as it's from a favourite book and I also do like Ys in names, (with reason!) however, the Y thing is not really trendy here but I can see it looks like just being different for the sake of it. Thanks!
vote up1
I didn't think about that. Yes, I say Sarah and Seren both SAIR- but I've heard British people say Sarah with a much more open "a" sound, like either SAH-ruh (as in hat?) or SA-ra as (the a like in Sah"a"ra)
vote up1
Sarah is 'SAIR-uh' but Seren is more like 'SEH-ren' (like the 'sai' in said), and Sara is 'SA-ra'(the a like in Sah"a"ra). For some reason we pronounce Sarah and Sara differently in the UK!
vote up1
ahhh SEH-ren! I've been saying it wrong. It's prettier with that pronunciation than as I was imagining it "sair-in"

From your list, the one that stands out for me as sounding really good with your surname is Eliza. I also just happen to really like that one. Other names on your list I like...Eva - not wild about it with your surname, though
Erin - I think this one works well
Seren - love the imagery but it feels a bit off with your surname for me
Louisa - not a usual fave, really, but I think it works with Dews alright
Fern - love this, but not with your surname
Sabina - okay with your surname, but I'd prefer the flow of Sabrina Dews; somehow, one letter makes a big difference in the feel for me
Tamsyn - prefer Tamsin spelling; I think this works better than Sabina In order of preference...Eliza Dews
Erin Dews
Louisa Dews
Tamsyn Dews
Sabina Dews (but Sabrina Dews would be second)

Thank you! I do like Sabrina but prefer Sabina. I'm sure it'll get confused with Sabrina all the time by other people though!

Nice names! Here is my favourite to least favourite:Kerenza - Absolute favourite!I just love the meaning and I think its original-sounding without being too out there.
Sabina - so spunky!
Seren - Another nice original name. The one thing I don't like is that it sounds a lot like Sara, so people might mix it up.
Louisa - I love the sound of this one, but I just wish it had a more interesting meaning.
Eva - Beautiful name, beautiful meaning. A little too popular for my taste, but its nice that it can translate to so many different cultures.
Eliza - I love any name related to Elizabeth. It's just got a nice sound and so much history behind it.
Freya - This would be way higher up, but if I lived in England, I wouldn't use it because it's just too popular.
Davina - Nice sounding name, but not really with your surname.
India - It sounds nice, but I'm not a fan of place names.
Fern - a little too dated for me.
Erin - just doesn't sound very interesting.
Tamsyn - This just sounds made up to me. Sorry! Personal opinion.
vote up1
The popularity of Eva and Freya does bother me a bit as in the past I've always preferred less popular names. I'm not sure how much it would bother me in real life. I can totally see the Tamsyn thing, no worries! Thanks for the feedback.

Freya - Freya is a name that isn't used much at all in the US so I don't really have a cultural read of it. But I like it, even though I suspect if I were British I might not. I like that it's not one of the princessy names that are so in right now. Eva - I prefer Eve. I really, really like Eve. Eva just sounds unattractive. Erin - To me it seems dated and kind of blah faux Irish. Eliza - I love it. It's one of my favorites. Seren - It has a very trendy sound. I've never seen it on an actual paper. It's better than Erin but I like it less than Sarah (which it also reminds me of)India - I'm not crazy about it, but its sound is pretty enough.Louisa - I love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful and sturdy and dignified. Fern - I think this is hideous. Sorry, I can't think of a nicer way to say it that still communicates my intense dislike. Sabina - eh. It's ok I guess. Tamsyn - I realize this is a legit name (at least I think it is) but it looks made up and trendy. Kerenza - It's not my style. Doesn't appeal to me. Davina - It's kind of cool. I'd be happy to meet one, as long as she didn't go by "Davey"
vote up1
No worries about not liking Fern! Thanks for the feedback on the other names though. I don't like the name Davey at all but it's a shame there aren't any nice nickname options for Davina.

Freya: Gorgeous!! Very very nice.Eva: Boring and tired.Erin: Meh. I knew a lot of Erins in college so I'm kind of bored of it.Eliza: Gorgeous! Spunky and great.Seren: Eh. Cool in theory but not really that interesting.India: Solid. I kind of like place names.Louisa: A little elderly but I still like it. I like the nn LouFern: No way Jose. Sabina: Very much dislike. Tamsyn: Prefer Tamsin. I like the name in theory but something is holding me back.Kerenza: Feisty. Davina: This is, apparently, a character on the CW show "The Originals." It's a spin off from The Vampire Diaries. So that's what I think. I don't really like it.
vote up1
Thank you. Interesting that Fern does not seem to be liked very much. But good to see Eliza is.I've never heard of The Originals or seen The Vampire Diaries. The main issue with the name Davina here is the TV presenter Davina McCall who seems to be everywhere. I think most people in Britain would automatically think of her when they hear the name. She's very loud and annoying!
vote up1
Fern just sounds so dowdy and out of touch. Like she'd be the poor girl in high school with perpetually greasy hair, bread stuck in her braces, and a bad case of horrible-clothes-itis. She's really earnest and just really depressing overall. Eliza should be loved by all because it's the perfect name. All right, a little dramatic, but that's just because I wish I could go by Eliza. That would be a hard association to get over! I know there's a broadcaster-type-person named Egypt. I thought the name was really awesome but I don't think I've ever seen her so I don't know what her personality is like. Then again, place names aren't very popular on name boards usually.

I'll comment on the ones I have something to say about. :)
Erin - I've always really liked this. I think it sounds so confident.
Eliza - Goes really well with your surname
Seren - I really want to like this, but haven't been able to make myself.
Louisa - Really cute with your surname.
Fern - Yeah, doesn't sound the best with the surname, but not awful either.
Kerenza - Makes me think of credenzas.
Davina - I actually think it sounds cool with your surname. I like alliteration.
vote up1
Thanks. I'm never sure about alliteration but good to know it's not all bad. I think I am leaning mainly towards Louisa and Eliza. I had an ancestor named Eliza with the same surname and that's what made me start liking it. I've liked Louisa for a while.I had to Google the word credenza, I've never heard of it!
vote up1
I think alliteration with a name is one of those things you either like or you don't. And I'm not entirely sure what a credenza is, actually... I think it's like a sideboard, but a term from a different region.

Yes:
Eva
SabinaMeh:
Freya --I find it really harsh but it's a decent name.
Erin --So dated and boring.
Eliza --I really dislike Eliza. It manages to seem both snobby and hickish, and it's nicknamey.
Louisa --The "weez"/"wees" sound sets my teeth on edge but again, there's nothing actually wrong with it.No:
India --It's a random country and has gross colonialistic overtones, especially on an English child. And it's too much D with your last name.
Fern --Ugly and definitely doesn't work with the surname.
Davina --I like it, but not with Dews.
Tamsyn and Kerenza --These would both be a yes if they were spelled properly as Tamsin and Kerensa.

I have loved the name India for years but I agree about the D overload. I know a lot of people here say it's colonialistic. It's not a BTN favourite, that's for sure. The Tamsyn spelling is from a favourite book of mine. I don't think it's a wrong spelling, just an alternative but I imagine it'll always get misspelt. But thanks for the feedback.

Well, Tamsin comes from Thomasina, which is not spelled Thomasyna.I just realized I forgot about Seren. Doh! I love it in theory but ever since someone pointed out the similarity to sarin gas, I don't know how I feel about it on an actual person.

Freya- I used to like it, but it's one of those names that used to be considered posh and now is a bit 'chavvy' (if people still use that word!) I've heard things like 'Freyaaaaaaaa! Get over here!' screamed in supermarkets a few times.
Eva- it's lovely :) pretty and feminine and not as trendy as Ava.
Erin- sounds like an American cheerleader name from the 80s or 90s, it seems a bit dated to me even though I know it wasn't that popular in the UK at that time.
Eliza- I really like it, this was on my own list but my fiance thinks it sounds too much like 'here lies a...' Also, it may sound a bit like Eliza Doolittle with the surname!
Seren- Very nice, I love the meaning. Would be fine to use in England, I think.
India- Sounds a bit too try-hard upper middle class, like that kind of joke about mummy taking little India and Jemima to ballet and kumon lessons in the 4x4.
Louisa- Love it! One of my favourite girls names. It's a classic that isn't popular at all at the moment, but doesn't seem dated :)
Fern - Reminds me of Fern Britton and Fearne Cotton. I've never been a fan of it.
Sabina - Seems like the r is missing, it's not bad though- it has a nice sound. I live in Germany where it's considered a bit dated, but it would probably be fine in England.
Tamsyn- I much prefer it with an i, it looks like it's been 'trendified' with the y, like when people use Carsyn and Madisyn.
Kerenza- Love it, I prefer it spelled Kerensa though, it looks softer.
Davina- This would be India and Jemima's mother's name. :) It also reminds me too much of Davina McCall, who I'm not a big fan of.Overall I think Eva, Eliza, Louisa and Kerenza (prefer Kerensa) are the best :)
vote up1
I worry that Eva will become more trendy and would get lost among all the Avas and Evies. I know what you mean about Erin sounding dated. It feels that way to me as well, even though as you say, it's not here. I hadn't really thought about Eliza Doolittle. I am a big fan of My Fair Lady so maybe it's not a big problem! It's funny because India does have that sort of image, but at the same time a friend once told me it's chavvy (yes people do still say that!). And Davina McCall is one thing, besides the alliteration, that partly puts me off using the name.I want to like Kerensa but it makes me want to say it with a soft S sound. Hmm, lot to think about, thanks!
vote up1
Oh man. Tamsin is lovely, but Tamsyn is wretched. Its like feminists wanting to spell women as womyn. I don't like it at all.
I like Freya, Eva, Eliza, Louisa and Fern the most. Seren, Kerenza, India, and Sabina are okay. Erin is super dated in my opinion.
I don't like Davina. To me, its too similar to Divine and thus gives me a stripper name vibe.
vote up1
Aww, I can't explain why but I love Tamsyn and am a bit meh about Tamsin. I know it'll always get misspelt though. The spelling is from a book called The Armourer's House by Rosemary Sutcliffe which I loved when I was younger but I can see why it looks a bit trendified.Erin is still fairly popular here, number 36, and I think was unheard of until the 90s, but I know what you mean because it's dated in America. Thank you.

Freya - I find it pretty, but nothing I personally would use. I'd love to meet a baby named Freya though.
Eva - Love it lots. I also love Evita and Evelyn. Not so fond of Eve.
Erin - Pretty, prefer the masculine version on a guy though.
Eliza - Loved it when I was younger, still find it pretty.
Seren - Pretty!
India - I see this on a blonde rich girl.
Louisa - One of my favorite names of all time! Love it.
vote up1
Thank you. I think I'm leaning more towards Louisa, Eliza and Eva at the moment. I've never met a baby Freya either but there must be lots because it's at number 19 in the top 100 for England and Wales. I hadn't actually realised it was that high!
