Aleksandra or Aleksander nn. Sandy

It gets better! In one of the very old Robin Hood stories there's a character named Sawnie and it seems that this is (a) a spelling pronunciation of Sandy and (b) a generic nn for a Scotsman - like Paddy or Taffy. So it goes back a very long way.
I like it very much as a nn for Alexander but not at all for Alexandra.

I hate the name Sandy as it is. So I'd have to say no, no no and no.
I much prefer Sasha as a nickname for Aleksandra or Aleksander.

I don't like either spelling at all and really don't like Sandy as a male nickname. I don't really like it as a female nickname either but it's worse for a male. I did know, when I was in college, a female Alexandra who went by Sandy, which struck me as unusual because although of course Sandy can be a nickname for Alexandra, it's more often a nickname for Alexandra's shortened form Sandra, and it seems the vast majority of Alexandras are Alex or Allie or Lexie---anything but Sandy.
I recently said that I don't like any nicknames for Alexandra, but I forgot there is one I like. Zan. Or maybe Xan. Pronounced the same.

I've never known a Sandy, but I do know people Sandra/ Aleksandra and I've never met an Aleksander who goes by Sandy.
For a girl, Alexandra, sure. Not for a boy...it's perfectly hideous on a boy, IMO only:) I have never known a male Sandy, but many female Sandys... I don't love it, but it works, I suppose. I think my favorite nn for Alexandra would be Lexi or Alexa. I don't care for Alex on a girl, it seems a little harsh, and I tend to like softer and more feminine names for girls.
