Jael
I came across this post on the Facts board. What does everyone think of Jael (f)? I don't like it at all and it makes me think of jail, prison and metal.http://www.behindthename.com/bb/fact/4517092

I like it, but I would never use it myself.

I actually like this name. I say it more like JAY-elle though, which the pronunciation guide doesn't agree with. I also think the Biblical character's story is a little gruesome.

It's interesting. Perhaps the Facts board poster is pronouncing it like jay ELLE - marginally less prisony? Not much though.

I like the name, but I think it would be pronounced jail all the time. I have a friend who spells her name Yael though, and while sometimes people say it like Yale, at least it's not a bad connotation.

I agree! And the Facts poster likes it because it means Mountain Goat - not sure if that makes it better or worse.I imagine it would be pronounced something like yaEL, in which case spelling it Jaelle would help. But not enough.I've never met one.

Yes, the correct pron. would be something like ya'el, but how many people would mispronounce it? It's awful. Name the child Yael ... which is not uncommon depending on what community you're part of.

It's little more than a jail to me. It sounds like the sound of bars clinking.

Jael's referred to as "blessed" in the story in Judges. But I can't really get the whole image of the tent peg killing out of my head. To me that's a little more off-putting than the fact it looks like the word "jail"! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yael*I definitely think the name could have some cool heroic connotations, though.

I quite like it:) I don't like every Biblical name I've ever read about, but this is one that definitely sparks the "yay!" Factor in me. I like how it sounds, and I quite like the strong woman behind the name:)
I would definitely use it on a girl, although In a middle name slot only.

It looks ok written, but you're right, it's all incarceration to me.
