Blathnat, Blaanid and Blaíthín -- flowers, flowers, everywhere flowers
The name of the day on the home page is Blathnat (I don't know how to make the accent going up over the first A of Blathnat.) The H makes the first T silent, so it's pronounced something like, "BLAH-nit." It means little flower. I know it's an acquired taste. And I'm not suggesting anyone use it in real life outside of Ireland. But for the pure love of names I was wondering if anyone else likes (or dare I hope, loves,) Blathnat? Variant Blaanid might be more palatable. Personally I'm most drawn to variant Blaíthín ("BLAH-heen"), but all warm my heart. Any combinations would be the cherry on top of my day. Thanks! :0)Also, are there any neat names meaning flower in other languages that you care to share?

I find the "Bl(a)" sound REALLY unattractive. The flower name on my mind right now has got to be Lan (Chinese for orchid). It's part of my Chinese name.

Lan is beautiful. :0) I knew the Blah names wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for the feedback and the new name (for me).

Blah, nit! While that is an accurate reflection of how I feel about nits, I think it's a dreadful name, sorry. Blaithin could grow on me, though it bothers the purist in me that it's a diminutive.Other names that mean flower that I like/find interesting:
Calanthe
Hana
Kasumi
Leilani
Mbali
Malai
Millaray (inexplicably enticing)
Zahrah
Nevena
Azucena
Nasrin
AyameAnd I just stumbled across Annagül ("Friday rose"), which is objectively rather ugly but for some reason I find it oddly appealing. Maybe that's how you feel about Blathnat. :p

Actually, I'm surprised how well the Blah names are be received overall. I didn't expect any takers. So the fact that you are even open to Blaithin is a plus in my book. :0) And you've listed so many great names, especially Millaray. I find it equally mesmerizing. I'm being drawn more and more to B and G sounds. Heavy sounding names are starting to appeal, so Annagul is right up my alley at the moment. Thanks!

Blathnet et al. have never done anything for me. Blaíthín is my favorite of all of them.I do love Blodeuwedd though. It's so gorgeous and poetic. And I seem to not have any combos with it. I'm not sure how much effort I can put in right now, but I'll try:Blodeuwedd Garden
Blodeuwedd Gwenhwyfar
That's pretty much perfect, so I'll stop there.Bláthnat Aria
Bláthnat Clemence
Bláthnat EasterBlaíthín Fiona
Blaíthín ImogenBlaanid Lyra
Blaanid Mayfair

Blodeuwedd is stunning (especially with MN Gwenhwyfar). The mythology behind the name is icing on the cake, too.Mayfair as a middle makes me smile! I love it.

*smacks forehead* Blodeuwedd. How could I forget the Welsh Blod- names? Mea culpa, mea culpa. Blodeuwedd Gwenhwyfar is so serious and playful at the same time. I'm not sure if she is glowering at me or winking. Love, love it. Other favorites from your lovely list:Blathnat Clemence
Blathnat Easter
Blaithin Fiona
Blaanid Mayfair (!)Thanks muchly. :0)

I don't like the 'blah' in the name tbh! Otherwise it's definite something I'd be into it. Blaithin is the best of the lot imo, it looks more modern and just all around prettier than its 'nat' and 'nid' cousins. Blaithin Belen pops out at me right away.Blaithin Freya
Blaithin Idony
Blaithin Ninon
Blaithin Eleanora
Blaithin Talulla
Blaithin Tamerlane (I know it's a male name but I was going through the 'T' page it just fit imo)
Blaithin Tatiana
Blaithin Ravenna
Blaithin Dareia
Blaithin Wilhelmina
Blaithin WaleriaBlaithin Rafaela Wallis
Blaithin Mairead Wendy
Blaithin Davida Helena
Blaithin Berengere Star
Blaithin Donea Jacinth

I really like both Blathnat and Blaithin! If I were to use one, I'd probably go with Ailsa Blaithin or Aoife Blathnat. As a first name Blathnat Roisin (although is that *too* flowery? Whatever, I like how is sounds together)As for other languages, I like:
Anthea
Calanthe
Ione

Be still my beating heart. Ailsa Blaíthín and Aoife Blathnat are superb, especially the latter. Blathnat Roisin is a tad flowery for me, but yes, the flow is wonderful. Anthea, Calanthe and Ione are terrific. I use Violet Calanthe on my combo polls. I suppose that's too flowery as well. I can ignore what I want to when I want to easily enough. ;0) Muchas gracias, mademoiselle (monsieur?)!

Blaíthín looks and sounds so pretty, especially with the accents. I don't think it's very usable for anyone outside of Ireland, though.Mary Blaíthín
Luna Blaíthín
Eva BlaíthínBlaíthín Ophelia
Bláithín Rosemarie
Blaíthín Elva

I'm so glad you like Blaíthín. All of the combos as great, but my favorites are Mary Blaíthín and Blaíthín Elva. Thanks! You're a peach. :0)
