Will Judith rise back to popularity again.
Judith, at 893, is pretty much a forgotten and now considered a "musky, old lady's name", but so were Sophia, Emma, Abigail and many others. I can also picture Judith going very well on a little girl. Thus, begging the question, will Judith possibly gain it's popularity again or stay dead?

My son had a Judith girlfriend, but it was a family name (Judith Maria), and not the start of a trend.I'd like to meet a new Judith, and I don't see why not. But it might need something to kickstart it, like a media person or a Young Adult-type character (think Harry and Katniss).

Oh I can imagine it happening. Hopefully it happens around the time I have kids because I think it's a terrible name and won't be disappointed with it's popularity or be tempted to use it.

Um, I doubt it. Judy, maybe, but Judith? That'll take some times and probably a few celebrities using it before it rises like Sophia, Emma and Abigail. Those names, and related ones like Sophie and Abby have been used for ages and ages, so it wasn't such a huge leap. Judith, on the other hand, is definitely all old lady right now.

Never say never! There has been some interest in Edith in recent years, riding on the back of the Eva/Eve/Evie/Edie craze so if Edith really took off I think Judith might have a fair chance.
It's a family name for me and while I don't love it, I also don't think it's ugly like some posters here do.
It would be refreshing to meet a little Judith.

Given the fact that it's classic and Biblical, probably, once it's been out of the top thousand for at least twenty years. But I hope not, as I find it irredeemably ugly. Oh well, I probably won't live long enough to see it, anyway.

I hope it doesn't become too popular! I adore it.

I think it's kind of a hipster name right now. We'll see what happens on the next SSA list, but it looks like it's still falling. It might fall off the top 1000 before it starts rising again. Not sure.
If the 80 year rule is correct, it might come up around 2025.

In reply to the Jayden thread:An invented name, using the popular aden suffix sound found in such names as Braden, Hayden and Aidan. This name first became common in American in the 1990s when similar-sounding names were increasing in popularity. It is sometimes considered a variant of JADON.Shithead

I actually have always loved the name Judith! I don't know why so many people dislike it. I could maybe see it returning, but it might take a celebrity using it for their daughter before it comes back onto people's name radar. :PAs it happens, I actually know of a little girl named Judith. She's the young daughter of my choir directress from freshman year of college. She has a little brother named Solomon. I don't know what prompted my directress and her husband to choose these very Jewish-Biblical names... I know they are some kind of mainline Protestant, and my directress was herself from Canada. :P Perhaps they simply liked the names, or they are also family names. :)

Well, my two year old niece is named Judith (Judy). She was named for her maternal grandmother, who died before she was born. I can see Judith rising, since it has the bright and shiny Judy to offer. People tend to like that name.

Jude is doing pretty well, but that doesn't mean that Judith would cross over. It looks like it's doing well in Spain and Catalonia. Maybe it will be in the next wave, the sick of the -ah endings musky old lady's name.

I don't know, but I don't really see it happening. Sophia and Emma have the popular 'ah' endings lending rise to their popularity, I don't know how Abigail got so popular.Judith just doesn't look or sound as pretty, plus it has a stronger Biblical association than the girl names that are popular now (as in, it sounds like the sort of name that only a very religious family would use). If it has any chance of gaining popularity though, now would be the time what with baby Judith on The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is a good point, it could pick up some popularity from there. The episode where she was named came out at the very end of 2012, which isn't enough time to make an impact. I can't imagine it would go up a lot right now, but that might be enough to keep it on the top 1000.

Hopefully not! To me, it has such a harsh and ugly sound. Jew-Dith. Ugh.
Sophia, Emma, and Abigail all seem much softer and much more feminine, which is why I suppose I could see them becoming so popular. But Judith just is not a name I could see liking, ever. And especially not for a baby...baby Judy also doesn't work well at all for me.

I hate to see what you name your children.

Is that really necessary? So she doesn't like the name Judith/Judy, big deal. No need to be rude.
