I like Riley for a girl. I agree it has a feminine sound, and while it IS hugely popular, I don't think it's that bad. I would much rather be Riley than Addison or Isla or Mc-Whatever.
Like you, I don't consider myself a true namenerd, but when I have conversations with non-namenerds I realize I am in that spectrum. I never make combos and I don't have a PNL, but I have a stronger interest than the average person.
