Opinions on my current crushes?
I've been crushing on:
Adelaide "Addie, Lady"
Ariadne "Aria, Ari, Addie, Nini"
Louisa "Lulu, Lilou"
Nicoletta "Colette, Etta, Nico"
Benjamin "Ben"
Cassian "Cass"
Gideon
Nico (boy)
Peregrine "Perri, Perrin, Pen, Pippin, Pip"What do you think of these names? Which are your favorites? What do you like/dislike about them? Are any of them too out there? Too popular? Just give me all your thoughts and opinions.
A couple issues:
Louisa- I'm really loving Louisa right now, but... My dad's brother was named Elias, but was called Louie (like Louis). They never got along. Would it be wrong for me to use Louisa? I never met Louie, he died way before I was born. Our dog is named Eli, is this any different?Nicoletta/Nico- Nicholas has been in my family for generations (what Greek family doesn't have at least one?). My brother's middle is Nicholas, I have a close cousin Nicholas (whom his mom calls Nico, but no one else, everyone else calls him Nick), my aunt is named Nikki, it was my grandfather's middle, I had a great grandfather named Nikko/Nicholas. Anyway, would it be wrong for me to use Nicoletta or Nico with so many family members named Nico-? What do you think about these issues? Am I over thinking it?Thanks!

I really like Benjamin and Ben is a very handsome, ageless nickname. Keep it.
The others I don't like at all. Lady is a terrible name, even for a nn. It's the female equivalent of "Hey you."
Louisa is okay, but I like Louise muc better. I don't think using it would be a problem, though Lulu and Lilou are icky-cutesy nns.
I'd skip using any more Nick kinds of names, just because I would already be tired of hearing them at family events. Colette can be a name on its own so you could use that.
Peregrine is so wimpy and prissy. Pippin and Pip are gross, like hiccups. Perry is okay and can be a name on its own.Ha, just remembered: my stepfather went to school with a kid named Perry. They had to go to summer school and the summer-school teacher was taking everybody's names. Perry said "Perry Mason" which was his actual name. The teacher, a big, no-nonsense type guy who kept strict order in his class, said, according to my stepdad: "I won't have no smart-asses in my class. What's your name?" "Perry Mason." "I'll ask you one more goddam time ..."
"Perry Mason, it's right on my paperwork." Teacher checked, sighed and said "All right, Mason, sit down and shut up." And from then on, Perry was his favorite student.

Adelaide "Addie, Lady" -- love this so much! It's a few favourite on my list and I think it is beautiful.Ariadne "Aria, Ari, Addie, Nini" -- I don't like this as much as Adelaide but it's still nice, possibly a little more "out-there" than Adelaide but still usable.Louisa "Lulu, Lilou" -- again another new name on my list that has possibly taken over my love for Louise. I think you're worries are unfounded.Nicoletta "Colette, Etta, Nico" -- Not a fan of this, at all! My mum's name is Nicola but I don't like any of the alternatives.Benjamin "Ben" -- classic, possibly a little boring. Using "Ben" you'll almost be guaranteed he'll have a classmate with the same name and/or nickname.

Cassian "Cass" -- I love Cass as a nickname but I prefer Cassidy or Cassiday for a full name. Cassian looks and sounds odd imo.Gideon -- never been a fan of this name, I dislike how it sounds.

Nico -- love this, I don't think I could bring myself round to using it though, maybe as a middle. I prefer this as a full male name than a female nickname.Peregrine "Perri, Perrin, Pen, Pippin, Pip" -- A little too out there I'm afraid, I couldn't imagine this seriously on an adult, or even a child.

I like:Adelaide, with nn Addy
Louisa
Gideon
Peregrine with nn PippinAbout Louisa: is this something you talk about often in your family? Does it still bother your father? If not, I think it's ok to use it.And Nicholas: it could be a bit confusing, but I like family names, because it's a sort of tradition.

Adelaide - This is my friends name :) It is indeed very pretty. We call her simply "Ade".
Ariadne - I don't like it that much but I like Aria a lot, I just feel like the ending doesn't do much for me.
Luisa - I just don't like this one, I don't think it looks or sounds that pretty. But I love Lulu And Lilou!
Nicoletta - I don't like it. But Nico for a boy is very lovely.
Benjamin - I really like it.
Gideon - it's okay, it has grown on me while watching criminal minds.
Peregrine - Not my type of name at all. I dislike it.

Thanks for your input! I've never met an Adelaide, but I would be super excited to!

Adelaide: I love this name. Very pretty. For nn's I'd use Ada and Lady, though.Ariadne: Gorgeous as well. NN Ari or Aria. I have to stop myself from hearing "are ya rodney?" which stops me from using it.Louisa: Very pretty. I feel like it's a very stiff lace type of name, but as if that stiff lace dress were shoved in a fiery redhead with too many opinions. In a cool way. :) Nn Lou.Nicoletta: I'm not a real fan of -etta names and I severely dislike Nicole.Benjamin: Fantastic. Strong, stately, but cool. A buttoned shirt with an easy smile. lol I don't know where I'm getting these images.Cassian: It's okay. Not bad but it doesn't make me love it. For Cass I prefer Cassander, but I think that's got a very different feel to it.Gideon: Great, love it. Tattoo sleeves and long hair. Nico: Yes, another good one.Peregrine: NMSAA, especially those nn's.
Yes, you're over thinking it. If you ended up pregnant and you were seriously considering Louisa, I'd recommend just asking your dad how he feels about it. If he's cool and you're cool, it doesn't matter. It's a very small issue that has an easy fix. :)It is definitely not "wrong" of you to use a name you love, despite its (over? lol) use in your family. I know an Italian family who is obsessed with the names Anthony and Antonella--seriously, those are the *only* names the family uses. And the Antonella and Anthony that are close to my age? They're going to use the names, too! Think of it as family tradition! lol

Thanks for your input! I love the nn Ada for Adelaide! So sweet. I really like Cassander too but it is more of a GP for me. I couldn't see myself actually using it. Yes, Nicholas is way overused in my family. We make the joke in my big fat Greek family: "This is my cousin Nick, this is my other cousin Nick. Little Nick, Uncle Nick. And there's Nicole." But hey, tradition is important. Thanks again!

You're welcome! :) I know Cassander is very close to Cassandra, which puts some people off; especially since Cassandra is in more places than Cassander.

Adelaide "Addie, Lady"- love this name, my favourite on your list
Ariadne "Aria, Ari, Addie, Nini"- this is a bit of a GP for me. I do think it's a little out there but I'd love someone to be brave enough to use it and I don't think it's out there in an unusable way.
Louisa "Lulu, Lilou"- I really hate Louise and any variants but I can't really tell you why except maybe because of the wheeze sound in the middle. Such a whiny name.
Nicoletta "Colette, Etta, Nico"- Also don't like this because it seems overdone. What was wrong with Nocle, Licola or Colette?
Benjamin "Ben"- BLEH! Fine enough name, but there are so so so many of them!
Cassian "Cass"- I actually like this. This is the first time I've ever heard it and the more I say it over, the more I like it. It does sound like casien and the trendy Kayson, but I'll forgive it.
Gideon- I don't understand the appeal of this name. All I hear is giddy. I knwo a lot of people like it thoguh so maybe ignore me
Nico (boy)- I really like this. It's very 'cool' and preppy, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's 'in' without being too tired, it's strong without being too macho and there are no obvious teasing factors.
Peregrine "Perri, Perrin, Pen, Pippin, Pip"- ew, no. This is not a name to me. And its not even a nice sounding word.Favoutites:
Adelaide and Nico (maybe with a newcomer, Cassian)Least Favourites:
Louise/Nicoletta and Peregrine

Thanks for all your responses! I just have 2 questions for you. Why does Nicoletta seem overdone? I've only met one. And what did you mean buy Nocle or Licola? I've never heard of those names.
To answer your question, I love Colette, but it doesn't translate into Greek, where Nicoletta does. I'm Greek (living in the USA), and it being translatable/pronounceable in Greek is really important to me. I'll still use Colette as a nn though.

Oh dear, sorry. Firstly, I was typing too fast and I meant Nicole and Nicola, not Nocle, Licola. And I mean that Nicoletta is overdone in the sense that it seems too much, as it too long, not as in there are too many of them and it has been used too much. Sorry I should have taken more time to type that out so it actually made sense!

I understand. Yes it is frilly and long. I know lots of Nicoles (and all of them are mean) which is why Nicoletta is more appealing to me.

I love Adelaide! I also like the French pronunciation of Adélaïde. I prefer the nickname Addie. Very sweet. :) Ariadne is gorgeous! I love it. I like Ari best as a nickname. I also love Louisa! xD But I like it best with no nickname used. :PI don't usually like feminine forms of Nicholas, but Nicoletta is one of the only ones I do! It's lovely. I actually like Lettie as a nickname better. Nico is to me strictly masculine.Benjamin called Ben is rather more common, but is still a great name. :) I like Cassian just fine, But I don't like the nickname Cass for some reason. :/ Love Gideon! Great, underused name.Personally I like Nico as a nickname only, not a full name. So I would use a form of Nicholas, *then* call him Nico. Peregrine is fine, not quite my style though. Like most people I think of the hobbit or the falcon. xD Also Saint Peregrine (I'm Catholic). :P Pippin is an adorable nickname for a little boy, though. I could also see Perri or Perry working. For me, Peregrine might be the most "out there" name of the bunch, at least in the US. I don't see any problem with using the name Louisa. It wasn't his actual name. I say go for it if you like it!Nicholas is obviously a family name, in which case there would be nothing weird or wrong with using it in some form. You are simply passing on a family name. :) Again, don't worry about it!

I prefer Nico for a boy as well, but other people were telling me to use it for Nicoletta. I agree with you and I'll probably take it off as a nn for Nicoletta.
As for Nico for a boy, I'd never use Nicholas since my cousin and I are very close. I like to honor, but I don't particularly like Nicholas, just Nico. I know so many Nicholas' that I'm tired of it. Nico still seems fresh to me though.
Thanks for all your positive responses and for answering all my questions!

Adelaide - I like it a lot, it's a family name for me, but I really dislike Addie and Lady as nicknames.
Ariadne- Love it, Ari isn't bad as a nn.
Louisa - One of my favourite girls names, Lulu and Lilou are sweet.
Nicoletta- Dislike, it reminds me of nicotine and cigarettes
Benjamin - Like it but dislike the nn Ben. I prefer Benjamin as a mn for that reason.
Cassian - Not bad, but I think I prefer Cassius.
Gideon - I really dislike the 'giddy' sound.
Nico - I like it, prefer it as a nn for Nicolas or Nicolai though, but I think it's fine on its own.
Peregrine - It's ok, I like Perrin as a nn.My favourites are Adelaide, Ariadne, Louisa, Benjamin and Nico.I don't think it would be wrong to use either Louisa or Nicoletta / Nico in those circumstances.
