Cordelia. Clementine only makes me think of oranges.

CordeliaClementine seems to be too flapperish ... I mean, its appeal seems to depend a lot on its antiqueness, to me. I think of oranges and "o my darlin' o my darlin'." I think Clemence has more contemporary appeal.Cordelia isn't more classic, really, but I feel like it's more versatile and less fashiony. If I were born today I'd much rather be a Delia or a Corie, or even a Cody, than a Clem.

I like them both, but I think Cordelia wins. Clementine I find a bit cutesy because of the fruit. Cordelia is more elegant.

Thank you. :)

I much prefer Cordelia because I just prefer the sound of it. I also like the potential nns for Cordelia. While Clementina holds some appeal for me, Clementine simply doesn't. I suppose it's mainly because I associate it with that ridiculous song and because it has something of a country bumpkin feel to it. I picture a girl with missing teeth and pigtails. LOL, I know that sounds awful. Okay, I picture a girl of yesteryear with red hair, freckles, pigtails and a hound dog on the front porch. :-)

Cordelia definitely has better NN options - thanks for replying! :)

Cordelia, but I like both. I also like Clemence and Clemency.

Thank you. :) Clemence and Clemency are also quite nice.

Cordelia. Clementine always reminds me of the song (sung by Droopy Dog--I think that's his name---no less). It's a cute name, but the association is too strong. Would have to meet one to change my opinion.

Thanks for replying! I haven't heard of that song, so I might have to look it up.

It's from an old cartoon, saw it years ago. It's "Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling, Clementine". Not sure if the dog says Clementine, but that is the original song.

Clementine definitely. It seems so much friendlier and fresher. Cordelia to me conjures up the image of a very grumpy old lady, who is never happy and just yells at everyone!

Thanks for your input! Cordelia is definitely a name that grows on you, at least in my opinion.

CordeliaI want to like Clementine. It has the old fashion flair that I'm usually dran to. But honestly, it makes me think of an orange and I don't really care for any of the nicknames. Not that I'd disklike the name if I saw someone else use it, I just don't think it's a name I'd ever actually want to use. Cordelia, on the other hand, is everything I love in a name. Old fashion, elegant, recognizeable but not popular, and lots of cute nickname options. I especially like Delia.

Thanks for replying! I know that a lot of people can't get past the orange association with Clementine, but I didn't even know clementine oranges existed when I first put Clementine on my list, so it's hard to boot her off...haha. I am really liking Clementine in the middle name spot, so I am leaning towards Cordelia more so.

Clementine by a mile. Cordelia is so stuffy and porcelain to me. I hate Delia. And Cordy. Gag me.I also know I really tomboyish outgoing Clementine who goes by Clem, so the association is nice. I wouldn't use it myself as a FN (also, I'm an Em so that wouldn't fly) but it's sweet if not overdone as a MN.

Thank you! I'm definitely loving Clementine in the MN spot these days.

I prefer Clementine. It just sounds nicer to me. I imagine a little, sweet, smart girl. Cordelia sounds severe imo.

I know where you're coming from - I thought the same of Cordelia. I think it's a name that grows on you. Thanks for replying.

Clementine can shorten to Clemmie, and Cordelia to Delia or Lia, so it would depend in part on which you preferred. Both names are quite a mouthful for daily use.I'd go for Clementine - not convinced by King Lear's silly daughter - but I'd rather see the -teen than the -tyne. The only one I know (talented, intelligent, beautiful; a drama queen) spells it Clementene which looks odd but clarifies the pronunciation.

I naturally pronounce Clementine with the -tyne pronunciation, so I find it hard to pronounce it with the -teen pronunciation. Clementene does look quite odd, but it does clarify the pronunciation which would be helpful in every day life.

Definitely Cordelia.

Thank you for responding. :) Your children have gorgeous names!

I like them both, but if I had to choose one, I enjoy the drama and rich colouring of Cordelia more than Clementine. Also I think Cordelia has more versatility about it, and I enjoy Cordelia's nickname options (Cori, Cora, Delia) more than Clementine's (Clem, Clemmy, Tiny?)

Thanks for replying! I've been trying to decide between these two for a year or so, but I never seem to be able to boot one of my list! However, as you pointed out, Cordelia's nickname options are much nicer, and that's something that would be taken into consideration if I was actually TTC.

Ooooh, this is difficult because I like both and they're both on my PNL, and both have had their moments of being on my top list...I'll have to say, atm, Cordelia. If only because 1) I don't like the go-to nn of 'Clem' or 'Clemmy' for Clementine (too close to 'clam', plus Clem is soooo hillbilly! bleh) and 2) Clementine is going through a trendy hipster phase atm. Actually, this makes me realize I can't think of a nn for Clementine that I do like... huh. I think it might be another Victoria for me. Beautiful as a full name, but none of the (obvious) nns appeal to me at all.Cordelia has that Shakespearean history, plus it was the name of a BAMF Buffy/Angel character (who sadly got shafted in later seasons, but that's for another post). I think 'Cordy' and 'Delia' and 'Lia' are adorable nns as well. And I think Cordelia would be better at fitting in in a modern world. (again, I do really, really like Clementine as well, so it's not like any of these arbitrary reasons hold real weight to me lol)

Thanks for replying Ora! I know how you feel - both of these have been on my top list for at least the past year and I can never get the guts up to boot one of them off, haha. However, as you mentioned, I don't like any of the obvious nn's for Clementine either, so that's definitely something to consider. However, that being said, it's been on my top list for so long that I feel sort of attached to it.I love that Cordelia has both Shakespearean and Buffy/Angel connections! My favourite nickname for Cordelia has always been Cora, but when I re-watched Buffy last year, Cordy definitely grew on me.
