New puppy name! + edit
I can't figure out how to load pics (do I have to shutterfly and html in? don't want to mess with that). Please check out the pup in my profile pic. I think we'll be bringing her home tomorrow. She is a standard poodle, but will be kept somewhat shaggy in a "teddy" cut, not shaved, and will be training as a hunting retriever. I am a little lost for a name. I feel like she needs something strong and maybe more masculine because she'll be hunting with my husband, and feel that he won't want to be calling a super girly name. I had always like Priam for a dog name, but doesn't work for a female. Any suggestions? She's got a great mellow personality. She's creamy white with a bit of brown on her ears and a black nose.Edit:
I suggested Artemis, which my husband hated. The list is now very masculine and word namey.
Flint
Sabre
Bay (I liked this, as in Laurel leaf, but also makes me think of a baying dog, though poodles aren't exactly known for their baying...)
Bryony and call her Bry
Zephyr
Avis
Mica
Quartz
Nova
Luna
Vega
Atlas
JonquilMy husband likes Zephyr and Sabre, and of those, I like Zephyr.
Another edit: Ovis is now in the lead. My husband said she's colored like an Ovis Dall sheep, and I like Ovis much more than Zephyr.

I would love Flint or Quartz! That whole list is really good, actually, but those two would be my favourites. Ovis is a good choice.

Yay, puppies! :0)From your list, I like Bay the best, but I do understand your concerns. Jonquil would be great too. Ovis reminds me of the Latin word for egg: ovum / ova (pl). I used it as a name for my white, egg shaped car once, as a joke. I'd hate to see that used on a real, breathing personality. Hmmm. How about:Scout, Nutmeg, Bronwen, Teddie (only you and the dog will know her real name is Theodora), Io, Clio, Larkspur, Aster, Clover, Bridie (short for Bridget), Sorrel, Cedar, Dido ("DIE-do"), Eos (goddess of dawn), Freya (goddess of love -- and cats -- oops), Nyx (goddess of night), Pax (goddess of peace), Arden (= eager, ardent), Milady, Smitty (if you've got the surname Smith in your family tree this would be a fun twist), Bijou (= jewel in French, "bee-zhoo"), Anouk, Suvi (= summer), Tova, Kiri, Orla (= golden one).I realize these may not be *masculine* enough. But it can't hurt to throw them out into the internet to see what happens. Happy hunting! :0)

My daughter recently got an 8-year-old female dog, (also a hunting dog, though she doesn't plan to hunt with her). She came with a long kennel name, including the word "Run", so they call her Run. We're all use to it now. I like Scout, Clover, Freya.

Run sounds like a command to me. And saying "Come, Run" is a little funny. However, Run made me think of Sprint, which is the name of my husband's boat. He liked that, except my son cannot say Sprint, sounds more like sint. But he can say "Ovis puppy dog." We are bringing the dog home this afternoon so still have a bit of time to decide.

Oh, it is kind of strange! But the dog accepts it as her name, and will run anywhere, any time, along with her new house-sibling, daughter's first dog, now age 4, that she raised from a puppy. Ovis is fine, if that's what you choose.Let us know!

I thought about Bronwyn, but my husband didn't like it. Yes, I rather liked Bay, but he passed right by it.The only one he liked was Scout, but he still likes Ovis best, I think.

Ah, well. Thanks for the feedback. It's always appreciated. :0)

Something uncomplicated, and not too likely as a human name, so people don't think your husband's calling out to some lady in the woods.
Sunny, Puff, Teddy, Flo, Minnie?

Maybe Hekabe or Hecuba, since that was Priam's most important wife in the Trojan myth? I don't know, it might be a fun association.
