Melanie- Eh, take it or leave it. It doesn't leave much of an impression on me.
Cara- I recently came to like Cara, and I find it warm and friendly. A tad dull.
Shannon- I find this dated, and the sound of it doesn't really appeal to me.
Karen- This is still dated, too, but I think it would be more likely to come back than Shannon. It could one day be seen as retro-chic.
Tara- It's a pleasant name and surprisingly uncommon in my area at least. Though again I find it a bit dull.
Michelle- I think it's dated. It was used a lot on women slightly older than me, and it still makes me think of Full House.
Colleen- Nah, it just doesn't appeal to me.
Marjorie- It's alright. Besides Cara and Karen, it's the only other name on this list I find somewhat interesting. I can't quite come around to liking it, though.

I don't particularly like any of these. Marjorie is ok, but quite old fashioned. Cara, I can like with that one too. The others really aren't my cup of tea.

Melanie - I love it, but it's finally becoming dated in my view. Somehow I think it'd be a little bit disappointing as a baby name. But I love it anyway, the rhythm of saying it. Seems sweet and fun.Cara - CARE or CAR? I like either, but CAR slightly more. It's very breezy. Hard to imagine on an elder woman, to me, but it's not girlish.Shannon - Another one that I can't see as being an old lady name. I like this too, it's also breezy and lilting. So 70s. In a good way.Karen - okay, this one is old lady enough to be a good baby name. I always liked the sound of it. But now it kinda reminds me too much of the word caring.Tara - I grew up with a TAH-ra so I struggle with pronouncing this Tair-a. I don't really like it either way. T names are sometimes so prickly and bossy.Michelle - it's alright. I like it, but not in a favorites sort of way. It's dated, I wouldn't consider it as a baby name. Michelina now.Colleen - seems freckly and brassy and coltish. I like the anglicization aspect of it. But not the look of it, or the general impression I have. It's okay though. It even grows up nice. Nicer than Kaylyn!Marjorie - seems down to earth, smart and friendly. I like it. Ageless, kinda.

Melanie- nice enough, slightly dated but not too bad
Cara- pretty, I quite like this
Shannon- I really like this name, a bit overused on girls here, I wish it was still a boy's name.
Karen- very dated
Tara- pretty but Cara or Zara are nicer
Michelle- very dated
Colleen- also very dated
Marjorie- just not pretty. This girls seems sad to me. Why are you sad Marjorie?

I don't mind Melanie. It has a pretty sound to me. Cara isn't bad, but I do prefer Clara. :)

I like Michelle and Karen, they're kind of GPs for me. I don't like any of the others.

I get a very dated-to-the-eighties vibe (not necessarily born in, but popular during) from all the names except Marjorie and Cara, which are more thirties/nineties, respectively. I only really like Shannon and maybe Melanie from the list. But Marjorie does have a nice gentle vintage flair. Reminds me of Marjorie Morningstar. Michelle and Karen remind me of teachers that I didn't particularly like.

Melanie - It's ok. It does make me think of a fun, upbeat person.
Cara - Also ok. I like it spelled Carra best, which I do like lately.
Shannon - can't really have an objective opinion! :)
Karen - I've never liked this. It seems dull and unintelligent to me.
Tara - Never liked this at all either.
Michelle - It's alright. Feels a little stuck up, maybe.
Colleen - I go back and forth between disliking this and thinking it's ok. The only Colleens I've ever known have given me a bad impression of it!
Marjorie - Love love love! Have loved ever since I was little and a friend's little sister had this name.

Melanie: Beautiful and just about timeless, without being necessarily a classic.
Cara: Pretty, slightly prefer Kara.
Shannon: Very nice. This is one of my sisters-in-law.
Karen: Yawn.
Tara: Annoying. Wannabe Ashley of its day.
Michelle: Okay, especially for a middle name.
Colleen: Not terrible but kind of drab and pale.
Marjorie: Cute in a very old-fashioned, flowery-garden-hat kind of way.

Melanie - a bit dated but nice enough. I prefer Melody, it seems a bit more modern and unusualCara - Lovely, but I find Clara a bit more refined and classic.Shannon - A bit masculine for my tastes.Karen - I actually like this a lot. I used to consider it dated, but the little girl on Outnumbered made me view it as a kids name again. I love it as a nickname for Karensa or Kerensa.Tara - Don't really like it. I find it a little trashy.Michelle - Dated and not very attractive.Colleen - Makes me think of a collie dog!Marjorie - Dated, makes me think of margarine and Marge Simpson!

Melanie: I like it. It's friendly and warm, not too trendy. I love the NN Mel.Cara: I *want* to like this name, but all I hear is "carrot".Shannon: Soft and lovely. I see big, brown eyes and vulnerability in this name.Karen: I really like Karen. People say it's plain, but I think it has character. I would even consider it IRL.Tara: People say it's too 70's, but I still like it. I would never use it, but I like it.Michelle: My aunt's name. It's nice. I don't have much else to say about it.Colleen: I think of a flapper, thanks to Colleen Moore. It's cute.Marjorie: A little dorky, but pretty and sweet. It's the Peggy Olson of names.
