names for a space nerd?
I was wondering if there were some names for those of us who love astronomy. I mean besides the constellations, and other star themed names? I grew up with a neighbors who's dad was an astronomy professor his kids were named Hubble and Hallie, and I always thought that Quasar would make a cool name for a boy? anyway thought? suggestions?

I like a bunch of names that feel space-y to me, even if they're not. Like Cosima, Astrid, Arista, Beatrix / Viatrix, Callista, Andromeda, Celia, Electra, Juno, Rigel, Sirius.

Astraea -- especially for a Virgo baby. :0) First thing to pop to mind. Quasar is too much for a fn. It's best left as a GP middle name. Other ideas:Ursula / Ursa
Castor and Pollux (nn Paul?)(I stole this one)
Ganymede (unisex)(GP mn?)
Galileo (nn Leo?)
Aristarchus (nn Sunny / Sonny?)
Ptolemy (nn Tolly?)
Tycho
Celeste / Celestine / Celestino

Names of galaxies, planets, nebulas, and other such objects? It's hard to think of astronomy-themed stuff that doesn't include stars...Galaxies:Bode
Mayall
Sunflower awww (I actually knew a Sunflower once, true story)
AndromedaNebulae:Dark Doodad. DONE THAT'S THE NAME YOU WANT
Heart awwwwwwwwwwww again
Rosette
Jones-Emberson
Barnard
Eta Carinae
Fleming
Calabash
Frosty Leo!
Gomez
Westbrook
SimeisOr get creative. You could do something like "Olwen Estelle Nephele" to symbolize the Footprint Nebula (based on the name meanings white footprint-star-cloud). That could be fun!

Dark Doodad? I'm off to google that one . . . . P.S. Olwen Estelle Nephele is fab, even without the connection based on meaning.
ETA: Wow. Dark Doodad. OK. That's why I come here, to learn new things. Thanks! :0)

Nova and Andromeda were my first thoughts, but they may be too obvious for you.I think Galaxy has a name-like quality (probably best to stick it in the middle.)

Edit: didn't notice you didn't want stars and constellations, ah well. That bit goes in square brackets at the end then...Quasar is awesome too, mainly because quasars are awesome. Also the obvious Astra, Cosmo, Stella, Lumina, etc.And besides all that, I think Starlight is really cute. Maybe as a middle name?
[If you go for names of stars and constellations, there are a ton to choose from. That used to be one of my favorite places to look for interesting names.Maybe... Procyon, Altair, Murzim, Aldebaran, Rastaban, Lesath, Meissa, Vega, Spica, Deneb, etc. Meissa was my favorite name for a while when I discovered it :)Or mythology names that these days are also associated with stars/constellations: Maia, Electra, Andromeda, Alcyone, Merope, Io...]

In my HP fanfic, Altair is a student, and my FMC has a wolf whose litter includes Procyon, Murzim, Adara, and Aldura, all stars from Canis Major or Minor. Sirius would have been too obvious for them.

Great list and a nice twist. :0) Wouldn't it be sweet to meet, not a little Joan, but a little Joan Higginbotham ____________?

One of my favorites is Tycho, after astronomer Tycho Brahe.

Tycho is really awesome. I just love its meaning, "hitting the mark." Plus, you get the nickname Ty. Really great name. Only drawback is that I could see kids calling him Psycho. Overall, though, it's a really neat name with cool astronomical connections.

Evren.
It's one of my favoriye names and means "universe".
I prefer it on boys, but it's unisex. Seren is a female Welsh name that means "star" and Bituin is a tagalog name that means "star". (Bituin also is my daughter's middle name). I am sure there are tons more, but those popped to mind right away.
