What would you suggest?
If a person came to you looking for suggestions of names that "nobody else has" (so, something extremely unique) for an actual baby, what sorts of names would come to mind?

Fantasy names. Or made-up ones, which are almost the same thing. Off the top of my head:Elzbet (f)
Cael (m)
Aldahar (m)
Elewen (f)
Eowen (f)
Davron (m)

I think the only way they are going to get a completely unique name is if they make one up. But here are some suggestions for names that it's unlikely their child will come across another with their name mainly from my personal guilty pleasures, I'm not saying I would actually recommend using any of these however, but just for funs sake. Athenadora
Anaktoria
Concordia
Corneliese
Fiametta
Jesperine
Lucasta
Luthien
Lysistra

Pick names that you think she'd never have heard of but you know are actually baby names (with meanings and origins and legit spellings) because you're a namenerd.Maybe something foreign, I'm thinking; Melina, Eliana, Amaya.
Surname names: Fletcher, Abbott, Asher.
Obscure Goddess names: Athena, Isis, Apollo.
Old fashioned names: Herbert, Barbara, Jacqueline.
Upper-class vintage: Eugene, Ramona, Beatrice.
Virtue names: Hope, Bravery, Truth.Hope these have helped :)

In today's world, probably Mary and John. Reginald and Susan. Claude and Enid. Cecil and Nellie. Geoffrey and Phyllis. Nobody else will have them, though thousands used to have them!

Absolutely made up jibber-jabber names would come to mind. Anything that has a semblance to another legitimate name has likely already been used. Something can either be unique or not unique. The definition has no grey, in the middle "extremely" or "a little" categories. I bet Xxxxyyyzzz hasn't been used yet.

Actually, Xyz or something, they might go for! How would you say that, I wonder? There's Abcde, so why not Xyz.

I'd pronounce it Zizz.

I like Pie's suggestions of obscure gods/goddesses and plants and things like that. Is this person truly seeking something "unique" or is that just using the word incorrectly? (I had a friend who wanted something "unique" and I gave her a buttload of suggestions and she replied "I like Cheyenne Grace!" uggh. She ended up going with Adriel, which is pretty unusual for a girl but she might end up meeting a boy with her name someday). I'd also go through the SSA lists, looking at names that were used less than 30 times or so. That's not truly "unique" but it's highly uncommon. For my friend, I also hit up ancestry.com because she also asked for something "victorian" (you can do what I did even without an account-- just do a search for a random surname and go through the results).

No, they definitely want something obscure. Something that their kid won't have to share with any other classmates (this is a big concern for them - they don't want there to be more than one on a class list) and without strong associations. Like for example I suggested Ebenezer and Wednesday (they are kind of gothy people) and those were too familiar for them. I think they might go for mythological names, but I doubt they'd be into the more familiar "big names" (like Artemis, Thor, etc).

I have a character named Libitina. Perfect for gothy people too.Using the SSA lists– very unlikely their kid would share a name with anyone in their class. Maybe not even their state. Sapphira

It'd depend on the person. I might go for names from ancient cultures that aren't in common use, or medieval names, or obscure gods/goddesses, or unusual Latin plant names. Someone else might like fantasy-type names, or South American-style mashups.
Would you be wanting an actual list here eh eh?

Yes! List away! Almost all my suggestions for them are not unique enough. It's an interesting challenge!
