Surrendering to Isabel
I can no longer exclude Isabel from my favorites, though I have tried. I really do LURVE Isabel despite the nauseating popularity of Isabella, and I can no longer pretend that I don't. Top 5. Okay 4. I'm coming out of the Isabel closet. No sense in denying what we love.

Isabel's nice, I have a good friend by this name, but I wouldn't really use it.

Yo I feel the same.

I love Isabel, too. It just has so much history and I doubt it will ever become dated despite it being popular. You go right ahead with your bad self and love it!

You are right to love Isabel. :) It's beautiful, without being as frilly as Isabella.

The heart wants what the heart wants ;) I'm an Isobel girl myself.

I love Isabel as well! Don't deny your love! Isabel is such an incredibly beautiful name. It has such a musical sound. I work with kids and although I see Isabella all the time I never see Isabel, which is a shame because it's far superior in my opinion.

The heart has it's reasons!
You're right, it is a beautiful name.I don't like Isabel myself, just from personal associations. But I'm in the minority.

Go, Isabel, go! I, too, love Isabel. Sound-wise, I think it's one of the most beautiful names out there. If that ridiculous Isabella weren't so popular, Isabel would easily be my top name. It is just gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. When I first started coming here around 2003 I dreamed of having two daughters, Isabel and Grace or Isabel and Anna. I'm still impressed with my 18-year-old taste.

I must say, I myself do have soft spots for both Isobel and Ysabel. While I am quite weary of the names Isabella and Isabelle, I think Isabel is okay. If you love it, there's no shame in that. Isabel is a pretty name, if not very surprising.

No shame! I love Isabel as a surprising middle name.

I agree that it's silly to pretend you don't like a name that is popular simply because it is popular (or close to a name that is popular.) I admit I love the formerly popular Amber. I love the nauseatingly popular Alexander. I wouldn't use Alexander because of its popularity, but that doesn't mean I don't love it, or wouldn't include it or Amber on a list of favorites, if I had a list of favorites. Hell, if "popularity" meant "automatic hate", then I'd now have to say that I hate my daughter's name, Victoria, which has grown quite a lot in popularity since I used it, but the idea is laughable, it's still my all-time favorite girls' name.Although I personally hate Isabel, Isabelle, Isabella, Isobel, all of them.
