Blousey (m)...... can any of you lovely English/Welsh BTNers explain this one to me?!I've asked my family over there, and they're baffled, although my cousin did say "I'm sure Lush do, or at least did, a shampoo called Blousey." Yeah I don't think that's it, but thanks anyway!Oh and one other observation, I noticed the name Myra was used 29 times, which I think is the most I've seen for a while. I wonder if it's slowly starting to shed its image of that woman, now she's been dead for a good few years.

Yeah, Blousey is weird! I've heard women described as "blousey" before, but it's not the kind of term I'd apply to a daughter! As to Myra, I guess some younger people may not be fully aware of Hindley. Perhaps it's being used to honour mothers/grandmothers? There was also a character in the soap Hollyoaks (though she's left it now and she was the mother of a lot of nightmare children, not a character you'd name a child after imho). I noticed the lack of Katnisses as well. I thought there might be a few of them.

I quite like Myra, I hope it does lose the bad association. There was a fairly famous wartime pianist, Dame Myra Hess, who would be a much better namesake.
yup blowzy, blowsy, blousy = scruffy, usually applied to women. I'm mystified too. :)

Renesmee and other observationsI noticed that the name Renesmee doubled from 9 to 18 uses in the last year, and not only that there is now Renesmae (10 babies), Renesme (6) and Renesmay (5)!Khaleesi has gone from 21 babies to 50 and there is also Kaleesi and Kalisi. No babies in 2013 named Sunshine or Rainbow (there were 6 Sunshines and 3 Rainbows in 2012). Fewer babies called Sunny but a couple more called Rain and Snow. :-)

And yet no Katniss on the list!If Renesmee has caught on in a small way, I'm surprised Katniss hasn't as well. I wouldn't endorse using Katniss as a name, but it's preferable to Renesmee!

Beau (m)...... was used almost equally for boys and girls.I loathe Beau on a girl, Belle is the feminine name, Beau is strictly male.Gah!

Yeah, what is that about?Anyone know what the inspiration is to name girls Beau?
I can't help thinking that there must be a famous woman calling herself Beau, because the word beau meaning boyfriend destroys any appeal it could have as a woman's name, for me.

There's only Bo Derek, and lets face it, how many parents having children today would be getting their naming inspiration from an actress who hasn't been relevant for years?!

I think this has question has come up before and we are all baffled. At least I am! I'm not aware of a celebrity who's used it. I don't really get the appeal for it as a boy's name either, although that makes more sense. I'm inclined to say people who use it perhaps don't realise that it's a masculine word (obviously weren't paying attention in French lessons). And the word beau meaning boyfriend is fairly archaic these days, but who knows?Pie pointed out there are 25 girls named Bow and 24 called Boe which I guess could be miss-spellings. I had a friend on Facebook with a stepson called Beau and I used to see some people referring to him Bow in comments. In addition there is also Bo (40 uses), Beaux (21), Daisy-Beau (6), Beau-Lily (4), Bella-Beau (4), Lilly-Beau (3) and my new favourite, Pixie-Beau which three people decided was the best name in the whole world for their daughter!

Duh, I didn't immediately connect it with Beau. i bet mumsnet would know, but I don't have the energy to go searching for it.:)
Haha, Pixie-Beau. Stunning choice!

Bella-Beau (m)...... must be twice as beautiful/handsome then?!!

I haven't had a chance to go through it all yet but I've had a quick look. Most of the names I thought would rise did, although I was a bit surprised that Lily fell and that Lottie isn't yet in the top 100. Not surprised to see Poppy rise though. Unfortunately Nevaeh is lurking just outside the top 100. I haven't really looked at the boys list yet but pleased to see Alfie falling out of the top 10!Interesting that exactly 218 babies were named Katherine and Catherine.I am always boggled by the sheer number of hyphenated names in the full list. I think Ruby-Blu and Ruby-Tuesday are my favourites. In the names only given to three babies, Boux and Tru caught my eye. Boux?!

God, I hardly even know what to say to these names, they're so different from the names popular in the US. I can't abide the twee nicknamey names on the list, like Alfie, Ronnie, and Poppy, but old-fashioned names like George, Theodore, and Albert are kind of cool.

No big surprises, really. Yay for Albert, Victoria & Beatrice as new entries to the top 100, and boo for Teddy, also a new entry. Nice to see Oscar got a bump up and loathsome Riley got a bump down.Anyone got any idea why are there 25 girls called Bow? (And 24 called Boe. Weird.)

All I really have to say is that I'm kind of sad Felix is in the top 100, but especially upset that Beatrice now is. Harriet and Arthur bother me being there, too, but they have been there for a while so I guess I can't complain too much.
