One of the worst names I've seen in a long time!
So theres a video going about on facebook, which I'm sure some of you may have seen of a three year old girl from England doing the ALS ice bucket challenge and then swearing at the end.Her name is Scarlett Rose, which is nice. I later read an article about her and it mentions that she has a 10 month old brother named Shankley-Gary.Shankley?? Hyphened with Gary??Really don't know what goes through some people's heads sometimes!

Scarlett Rose is nice but Shankley-Gary is awful.

Ojej, the hay is Shankley? I don't even know how to make heads-or-tails of that one. Is it a place name? Is it a family surname? Or is it after the British actress Amelia Shankley (might be the most likely as you said the girl is English, but why name the boy after an actress?)? And don't even get me started on the rhyme-y endings and duel disyllabicness of Shankley and Gary. This name is just no. Scarlett Rose isn't my cup of tea either (two word names) but it isn't really bad. She got off lucky. Now, my bonus question: What, pray tell, is this ALS Ice bucket challenge? I've been hearing it thrown around lately, but I've no clue what it is, and I haven't felt like watching any videos depicting it because I've no idea what it is. It's been bothering me.

The Ice Bucket Challenge is a fundraiser for ALS. If someone nominates you, you either have to donate $100 or dump a bucket of ice water on your head and challenge three others to donate or dump water on their heads, and it keeps going. A lot of the people do both. I agree that Scarlett Rose has the better name. I sure hope that Shankley is a family name, but it's still horrible.

Ah, thank you! Well, it's nice to see that one of these Internet trends is actually being used for a good cause.

I know the spelling of Shankley is different to the late, great Liverpool manager, Bill Shankly, but given the girl is Scarlett and the fact Liverpool's kit is considered scarlet, I can't help but wonder if it is a Liverpool FC thing!

I don't know... The mother is 19 years old, so Shankly died nearly 25 years before she was born. I can't see a 19 year old girl being so in to football that she'd name her kid after a player from that long ago - the kid would be called
Gerrard or Owen. If she was that keen on football you think she would've spelled it correctly too.
I think it's just a poor name choice on a name she probably made up

Usually I just shake me head at bad names. This time I can't stop snickering. Shankley is just too much.

dittoI actually laughed out loud at this one. I think it's the "Gary" part that makes it doubly ridiculousAlso, sorry to go off topic but I looked it up and the little girl is really cute with her brummy accent. Young family, she lives with her grandad who is 33.

I don't either. My first response was to laugh. Perhaps it's a family surname but still ... I know the name's bad when I'd rather see the poor child called Gary. :-)

I don't know if "shankly" means something, but Shankley-Gary sounds kind of, eh, dirty. Like Dirty Harry or something. Horrible name.

It could be a family surname, but at least they could have used it as a middle name.

I agree!!!!
Shankley sounds like a synonynomin for thin, sickly or ugly. And if anyone ever read the maze runner (movie hitting theaters in 3vweeks) you will understand that the use of the word "Shank" is slang. Also slang in real life where someone stabs someone. Yikes, the hell was that mother thinking? Also was the 3 year old girl swearing?! If so, bad parenting.

I had forgotten about the Maze Runner, but yes that makes the name even more stupid. I'm looking forward to the film; I enjoyed the book (the sequels weren't so good though).

Haha, I saw that too. He could be named after Bill Shankly, the former Liverpool FC football (soccer) manager, but they spelled it Shankley, so maybe not. I dislike hyphenated names anyway, but Shankley-Gary is really bad! and I'm a Liverpool fan!

Lol, yeah I was thinking it could have been after the Liverpool manager as well, but then realised the spelling is slightly different. (Think the family are from Birmingham anyway) Would really love to find out where the name came from lol.
