Re: "Names hip Londoners are calling their kids"
I can never get over how different American and British naming trends are. I can't even see American hipsters using some of these names! :) My opinions:Fleur - Pretty.
Florence - It's okay, though I prefer Flora.
Carla - Carla does nothing for me but Carly is a cute nn.
Josephine - Stunning.
Nesta - Also pretty.
Elodie - An amazing name, I think it needs to become a favorite of mine.
Martha - Old-ladyish and causes me to think of sour things.
Elsie - Cute even if it is reminiscent of cows.
Clemency - Lovely, though Clementine would be even better.
Lois - It's okay.
Delphi - I can think of two possible prns of this name, neither of which is appealing.
Maud - Frumpy.
Ethel - Even worse than Maud. I never would've imagined this name would make any sort of a comeback.
Ottilie - Eh, kind of ugly.
Orla - Same as Ottilie.
Bess - I've liked it ever since I've seen it described as a Jazz Age name. Now it brings to mind flappers and fun.
Manon - Okay, maybe a little pretentious.
Gilda - Frumpy.
Cosima - Trying too hard to be sophisticated.
Jean - Dated.
Coco - Cute, though as a nn.
Seren - Ugh. I don't like women's names that end in -n.
Althea - Okay.
Candida - Attractive but brings to mind yeast infections.
Hester - Esther's uglier cousin.Arthur - Nerdy.
Virgil - Love it. I was just thinking about this name and how classy it is not long ago. It needs to make a comeback.
Lysander - I sort of like it but also kind of think it's too much.
Rasmus - Strong name.
Rafael - Awesome but it needs to be spelled Raphael. It loses something when the -ph- is dropped.
Hal - Cool. I imagine a Hal as being a nice guy.
Atlas - Gross.
Mitford - What an odd name to become popular.
Clement - Neat.
Axel - Unattractive.
Rufus - Same as Axel. Rufus would sound more appropriate on a dog.
Benedict - Interesting. I like old Catholic names.
Marmaduke - Also a dog's name.
Herbie - I like the idea of Herbie because it's cool when old names are revived but I can't see this on a modern man.
Arlo - Hipsterish.
Fergus - Okay, I guess. It's not for me but I can see its appeal.
Zefi - What an odd name.
Dex - Bearable as a nn but not as a full name.
Stanley - Not fresh but not old enough to be appealing.
Winston - Nerdy and makes me think of pigs.
Pensive - Yikes, this is weird.
Cosmo - Barf. Like Kramer.
Lenny - This is another old name I want to like but I can't get Lenny from the Simpsons out of my head.
