Joan as either first or middle name?
Any supporters or opponents of Joan?

Sorry, I think it's quite boring. :/ I prefer Jenna, June, Juno, Janine, or Jeanette (but NOT Janet or Joanne)-
I adore Joan as a first name! It's so sleek and historically rich and subtly brazen.
supporter, but only superficially. I like that the name is short, sweet and recognizable. However, I haven't met a lot of Joans that I like (which is weird, since they are all older ladies).
I can see it working today, though I prefer the equally dusty Jill.

I like Joan, but not enough to use. It's got a brisk medieval energy about it that I like, but it's still so very 1930s. Middle name, therefore. Philippa Joan or Cecily Joan, to keep the Middle Ages alive.
Joan or Joanna ... Joanna ironically is more modern, but it tends to shorten to Jo, which is a pity. Joanne is a flabby no-no.
