I would use Helen, Mabel (which I think you may have meant?), Harriet and perhaps Frances; I also rather enjoy Thelma, with its placid dignity. Shirley is genuinely pretty, but the tap-dancing toddler associations are too powerful.

I did mean Mabel, I wasn't sure who to respond to to mention that. Slight dyslexia of the fingers there. My name is Heidi, so the tap dancing toddler is a pretty fine association imo. It's one of my GP names, and I personally used to be a huge fan of Mrs. Temple-Black... wanted to become an ambassador just like her. ;)I also think Thelma is spunky, but couldn't saddle a kid with it myself.
