Glenn for a girl?
Hello!I just watched guardians of the galaxy. Glenn close is in it. The lady looks the same add when she was in 101 Dalmatians when I was kid. Good for her. It got me thinking about her name though. Glenn is my dad's middle name and my grandpa's middle name. I like it I think. But today (because of the movie)I got to thinking about it for a woman. Do you think it would be cruel of me to use Glenn as a middle name for my future daughter? I know it's a masculine name but it did make the charts for women between 1880 & 1920.

Plenty of girls get a family ln as a mn - I know a Barbara Watson Ln, a Caroline De Villiers Ln and probably others. So, yeah, that's what the mn slot is for: family names. But if you wanted to give her a longer version that could be shortened to Glen(n), there's always Glenda or Glenys. I knew a Glennifer at university, but I don't advise it.

IMO it's a terrible name for a girl. Better off as a middle name if it used, but Glenda/Glenna/Glenys would be better. And even if it made it into the charts in 1880 and 1920, there is probably a reason it never stuck around for women.

I personally wouldn't use Glenn on a girl but at least you are thinking about using it as the middle name.

Do what you want, it's your kid.
if it honors someone you like/love, don't feel pressure to like or dislike it. Names are just names. It's not the end of the world -people...Names are made up. Words are made up.
Names only get history if you use it on a child or character.
If you don't give a name a history, it never will effect you either way except the sound/spelling maybe... I am in a spicy mood right now.
What i don't understand is seeing the same names over and over, try new names, or something.
I am strong advocate of responsibility and freedom.
I am not against name laws if they make sense, no swear words or mean names. but I am not for name laws cause it restricts freedom of Choice.=free will.
Anyway Sorry lady, I kind of got on the wrong track.
nothing personal, I think Glenn is alright, but then again I have questionable names on my list. Aspen for a boy or girl or Mercy for a boy or a girl.ones a tree the other a virtue...word names have history too...but then again other places have name laws, they might be jealous of places with more freedom, I don't know...ok i am done for now Oh Anyhoo what is a bad name in your opinions? So I don't suggest them...

I thought Glenn WAS for a girl. @_@ sorry. I just see it better on a femaleKinda girly and feminine for a male. Just my opinion

I would deem very few middle names cruel, and Glenn certainly is not one of them. I even like it as a first name! It's so silken and sleek.

I wouldn't use it, because it does seem masculine to me. I have a co-worked named Glenn so maybe that's part of it for me too.I do know a Glynn (rhymes with chin) and I think that is suitable for a girl or woman.

Aw, I like Glynn. It's so sweet. But I think there is a Barbie fairy movie and the littly flying fairy-furball thing (no idea what it is) is named Glynn. I also am not sure if it is a boy or girl... thought I lean towards boy even though it is purple, because it seems to have a thing for another flying fairy-furball thing that is pink. In any case, my niece is obsessed with Barbie and Fairies now, so all I can picture is an adorable furball with the name Glynn.

Nope, do it. First of all because it is a family name and has an honoring role. Secondly because it is totally fine for girls. Glenn Close is a good role model, and the name is short, simple and uncommon. I wouldn't even mind it as a first (though it is def not my favorite name), but as a middle, I totally encourage it. I would, however, double check that idea with your dad - just in case he thinks of it as totally male. I was going to name a son Hollis, to honor my amazing sister Holly and she shot that idea down crazy fast. I am sure your father and grandfather would be honored, but never hurts to mention it (if you decide for sure that is what you want to do).

I don't think it would be cruel; it's in the middle, honorary, and nothing really teasable about it. If you are really concerned, you could always use the female Glenna instead.
