I used to like Amanda a lot until I'd heard it so much. The final nail in the coffin for me was during my first pregnancy when dh and I were discussing different names. Amanda became "a man, duh" and it sort of ruined the name for me. Also, while growing up, my eldest dd had a friend with a sister named Amanda. Her family nn? Duh!

Miranda is less common and more exotic and I'd use it quite happily if dh cared for it (he thinks Miranda Rights).
