Re: Which "anda"?
I used to like Amanda a lot until I'd heard it so much. The final nail in the coffin for me was during my first pregnancy when dh and I were discussing different names. Amanda became "a man, duh" and it sort of ruined the name for me. Also, while growing up, my eldest dd had a friend with a sister named Amanda. Her family nn? Duh! Miranda is less common and more exotic and I'd use it quite happily if dh cared for it (he thinks Miranda Rights).

There was a "Simpsons" episode in which Bart called the bar and asked the bartender if Amanda Hugenkiss was there. So the bartender started yelling, "Where's Amanda Hugenkiss? I need Amanda Hugenkiss! Why can't I find Amanda Hugenkiss?" The joke being, it sounds like "A man to hug and kiss." We used to once in a while call our friend Amanda Amanda Hugenkiss.

LOL, I didn't realize Amanda could lend itself to so many jokes.
