..do people dislike Micaiah so much on this site? Is it because it sounds like an octomom name? Nevertheless, your disdain only makes me love it more. Pronounced my-KAY-uh. Also pronounced uh-MAY-zing.

I don't feel strongly about it one way or the other. And I don't dislike names just so you can like them more, but whatever. :P

Like all the -IAH names, it sounds to me like a white-bearded, woman-stoning type of fellow. (the only real reason I don't like it)
The name Micaiah doesn't mind if you think it reads the Bible, but it totally doesn't. It just spins that sassy gendery McSoundah that is so 2013 with the ancient Hebrewy style - so clever; and it isn't popular of course. So it's got hipster heart enough for three or four names.
I guess your pronunciation should seem intuitive because it's like eye-ZAY-ah for Isaiah. I tend to say mik-KY-ah though, which is after all closer to the original pronunciation, and I think it would be (mis?)pronounced that way often enough to be distracting.

Tritto. I don't remember seeing this name here much, so maybe the comments are via the name's page? It does sound like part of the Mc- family, which some people dislike for girls because it means 'son of---'. It's also a less common Biblical name. So either way, it's a love/ hate group for some people.

I have only ever heard it pronounced Mi-KY-uh. Not to sat Mie-kay-ah isn't correct but it's not how it's said here. Also the pronunciations on this site are not The Only Options–several names don't have pronunciations or have pronunciations but not the English pronunciations.
I do like it (pronounced the way that comes naturally for me); it has been on my list a long time and it is in one of my top combos.

I haven't noticed that much hate for the name, but I may have missed a post somewhere.
In any case, I thought it was pronounced mih-kai-ah, and I really like it that way.
My-kay-uh is NMS simply because the sound doesn't suit my tastes or match my last name. I would like it better as a middle name (which you have chosen).
If you love it - use it.
If it helps, I happen to really like the names Morraine, Meadow, Wisdom, Whisper and Loveday, which wouldn't get much love here. But, I still like them and know my tastes are not in sync with everyone. I actually like the many opinions on here because it forces me to broaden my perspective on naming.

I don't dislike it, and I don't recall it ever coming up before, or anyone saying they hate it, which, of course, does not mean this hasn't happened. But I'm so puzzled by you saying "your disdain only makes me love it more." You've said things along this line before. It's always the equivalent of "Well, I like it more now, nyeaahhh!" Such a childish reaction. Your likes, dislikes, and preferences should not be dependent on the likes, dislikes, and preferences of others. Would you start disliking the name because someone else said that they dislike it? No, I'm sure not, I'm sure you would want to consider yourself more strong-minded than that. Likewise, why should someone's dislike make you like a name more?
And further, the statement is implying that you're offended by others' dislike of names that you like. Why, then, do you ask for opinions?

After reading the response to each poster's answer, it seems that this thread is
just a keg-post. The poster is looking for people to disagree so he/she can vindicate his/her name choice.
An interesting way to pass the time, but totally defeats the purpose of asking for honest critique or opnions.
I have not heard hate for the name at all - at least not like other names (cough* Nevaeh*cough).

How many times on here in the past eight years have I started to love a name that was deemed awful by other posters, only to have it gradually increase in popularity and popular acceptance to the point where I have to uncover more dusty old gems? You've been one of my biggest naysayers, and for years were averse to Isaac, calling that an awful old man name, as I recall.
I've been a trendsetter my whole life in every arena, and believe me, Abner is both daring and attractive.
Same old, same old story. It's okay, though. :)

You can choose whatever names you like.
I haven't been one of your biggest "naysayers" either, I actually like/love a lot of the names you do. And I don't recall ever saying that Isaac is an awful old man name. My best friend has a brother named Isaac and I've always liked it, ever since I was a kid. Make sure that you know what you're talking about, Brandon.

Why do you "have to" uncover more dusty old gems when the previous dusty old gems increase in popularity and popular acceptance? Do you love certain names because you really love them or because you have to be a trendsetter?

Actually, I have heard this name used IRL, and the pronunciation was as LMS stated. Which doesn't mean it is correct - only that it is an accenptable and used way of saying the name. basically - validated.
I checked the pronunciation listed on BtN and it seems to be a mixture of the one LMS suggested (and I did too, in my post above) and the one you prefer.
Even if the name is said My-kay-uh... I think that the rule of vowels in English might alter the natural pronunciation for English-speakers to start the name with ME or MIH, instead of MY. Confusing at first - but a simple correction would help people out if this were a real child's name.

The only time I ever encountered this name in real life is on a girl who goes to school with my daughter. It's spelled differently, I can't remember just how, but maybe Makaiah. It's pronounced Ma-KY-a, with a pretty much neutral first vowel sound. She has a twin named Mikayla.
