Which names don't 'go'?
This is going to be a fairly long list, so for that I apologise, but I'm trying to decide which of my favourite names really don't work with Romilly as potential sister-sets. Explanations as to why they don't work would also be welcomed if you have the time and/or inclination. Feel free to throw in any other thoughts you have, too. Adeline, Agnes, Alexandrine, Anastasia, Anouk, Arabella, Araminta,
Beatrice, Bronwen
Camille, Cecily, Cosima
Daphne
Edith, Eleanora, Eliza, Elowen, Eugenia / Eugenie, Eulalia / Eulalie
Florence, Frances
Gaia, Georgiana, Guinevere, Gwen
Harriet, Hebe, Hedwig, Helena, Hermione, Hero
Ianthe, Isadora
Josephine, Juniper, Juno
Katharine, Kerensa, Keturah
Linnéa
Margot, Marguerite, Marina, May, Milena, Miriam
Nora
Olympia, Ophelia
Penelope, Philippa, Philomena
Sybil
Tempest, Thisbe
Viola, Vivienne
Wilhelmina, Winifred, Wren
ZeldaMuch obliged!

Ottilie

I dislikeAgnes - dated in my opinion
Anastasia
Arabella
Araminta - sounds very foreign
Beatrice - dated
Bronwen - dislike its sound
Camille - a cute name, but it doesn't flow together with RoMILLy
Cecily - again, a cute one
Cosima
Edith
Eleanora - still a cute one!
Eliza
Elowen - I also think it isn't very feminine
Eugenia
Eulalia / Eulalie - weird, sorry
Frances - too plain next to Romilly
Gaia - though an interesting one
Georgiana - sounds cheap to me
Guinevere - confusing spelling
Gwen
Harriet
Hebe - weird one
Hedwig - very old-fashioned
Helena - although a lovely name
Hermione - too much a reminder of Harry Potter, in my opinion
Hero - weird as a name, plus I think of it more of a boys name
Ianthe - interesting, but weird at the same time... especially spelling & pronunciation would cause confusion
Isadora - weird one, although I somehow like it
Juniper
Juno
Katharine
Kerensa
Keturah
Linnea - love this name, but without the apostrophe
Margot - makes sense, but very dated

The only one I'd say really doesn't go is Cecily. As much as I love both names, they are way to similar sounding for siblings. I'd also probably avoid names with strong O sounds like Juno, Ophelia, Olympia and Penelope. But you could get away with those if you really loved them. My favourite siblings pairs from your list are:Romilly & Adeline
Romilly & Anouk
Romilly & Elowen
Romilly & Florence
Romilly & Juniper
Romilly & Linnea
Romilly & Vivienne

It's easier for me to work backwards in this situation, so how about names I think DO go with RomillyAnouk
Bronwen
Cecily
Elowen
Gaia (though 'Gaia Romilly' is Emma Thompson's daughters name)
Hermione
Juniper
Kerensa
Keturah
Linnea
Margot
Olympia
Ophelia
Philippa
Sybil
Tempest
ZeldaMy favorites with Romilly, being Elowen, Juniper, Kerensa and Tempest.
And these stood out as a "NO"Agnes
Arabella
Edith
Eleanora
Hedwig
Josephine
Katharine
Miriam
Nora
Penelope (but Peninnah would work)
Viola
Vivienne
Wilhelmina

I'd eliminate these as a sister to Romilly:
Agnes, Eugenia/Eugenie, Hebe, Harriet, Hedwig, Penelope, Thisbe, Sybil, Winifred --Too ugly/harsh/clunky.
Bronwen, Camille, Cecily, Cosima, Ianthe, Eulalia/Eulalie, Hermione, Linnea, Marina, Olympia --Too similar in sound.
Alexandrine, Arabella, Araminta, Eleanora, Georgiana --Too frilly.
Gwen, May, Nora --Too insubstantial.
Edith, Gaia, Hero, Katharine, Keturah, Milena, Miriam, Ophelia, Tempest, Wilhelmina, Wren, Zelda --Jarringly different styles next to Romilly.
Philomena, Guinevere --These push Romilly into pretentious/over-the-top territory. These sound great with Romilly:
Anastasia
Eliza
Florence
Frances
Helena
Isadora
Kerensa
Margot
Marguerite
Philippa
VivienneI could take or leave the rest.

I'm commenting on how I think they match with Romilly ... whether I think most sisters named Romilly and ___ would feel like they both got equally good names ... not on whether I like the names.
For ones I say they work ok, that's for people called by the full names - assume it's qualified by whether any nicknames work together too.
Romilly is not a fave of mine but it's alright. I think it sounds pretty dominant, but also a little frilly and glamorous, and a sister should have a name that can compete with it on those fields.Adeline - eh, plain. Adelina maybe
Agnes - doesn't work. Agnes makes Romilly seem silly
Alexandrine - works ok
Anastasia - ok
Anouk - ok
Arabella - ok
Araminta - ok
Beatrice - eh ... Beatrice seems so much more buttoned up than Romilly.
Bronwen - ok. I don't mind the similar sound
Camille - I do sort of mind the similarity
Cecily - cute match.
Cosima - nah, too ugly.
Daphne - hmm ok but Daphne is much less serious than Romilly
Edith - ok
Eleanora - clash.
Eliza - clashy
Elowen - okay
Eugenia / Eugenie - odd
Eulalia / Eulalie - ok
Florence - ok
Frances - eh. glamor differential
Gaia - neat mix
Georgiana - outfrills Romilly too much
Guinevere - weird style clash

Quoteit's spelled Isidora. "Isadora" is like "Romally"
Isadora has been used since the 19th century at least, though, so I think it's fairly legitimate. More legitimate than Romilly, even, and Isidora changes the pronunciation for me. Thank you, though!

Yeah, it's legitimate, in the same way that Mckayla will be legitimate in 100 years.
Sorry, I just hate it =( nothing personal

I think most of them do go, (though some are much nicer than others). I also like the name Romilly. The ones that don't in my opinion are:Daphne, Gwen, Nora, Philomena, Sybil, Wilhelmina - These names all sound too dowdy and frumpy next to Romilly.Eulalia / Eulalie - two many Ls with Romilly.Hedwig, Thisbe - I'm not sure that these goes with anything so it's hard for me to judge objectively but I couldn't imagine someone pairing Romilly with either of these names.Milena - I don't dislike it, it just sounds very European next to Romilly which I think of as being quite British.Olympia, Tempest - Not totally sure why but they just have a different image for me than Romilly.I know someone who used Romilly. I think her other child is called Willow.

Romilly and Willow is interesting, I'm quite surprised to see them together, really. Thank you!
