I was thinking of the 2-syllable names that end with IE, EY, LY, I, etc.You know the type:
Sherry/Sherri/Shari
Shelley
Kelly
Jamie
Jessie
Kathy/Cathy
HollyTerry
Tommy
Georgie
Bobby
Jackie
...And many moreI have always felt these names were somehow unfinished. I know some are used as short-forms, like Cathy for Catherine. But I've also seen these names just as they are. These kind of names almost seem stunted, unfinished, like they have more to say. I don't know if that makes any sense. That's why most of the names I chose for my Cabbage Patch Kid collection are in their complete form. Sure, Matilda gets referred to as Mattie all the time, but at the end of the day, her name is still Matilda. I have a Bailey and a Tashy, but they are the only IE sound names I like.

If I don't immediately think of the one most likely full name they'd be after, I can just accept them as complete names when I hear them, and I like many of them that way. These all seem like whole names to me:
Sherry, Shelly, Kelly, Jamie, Holly, Terry, Kerry, *Tracy, Stacy, Leslie, Amy, Brandy, Darcy, Ivy, Mary, Marie, Ruby, Larry, Bailey, Hailey, Kayley, Ashley, Carrie, Molly, Sally, Gary, Lacey, Macy, Harry, Dewey, Valerie, Casey, Poppy, Henry, Natalie, Rosalie, Polly, Sadie, etc.Names that I "feel" as short or familiar forms:
Jessie, Tommy, Kathy / Cathy, Sandy, Mandy, Mindy, Cassie, Bobby, Robby, Georgie, Sophie, Sylvie (sort of), Jackie
