Breaking away from my traditional taste with my latest fav
I think a little too much of the future and what to name my currently non existent children, and usually I have quite formal, long or traditional sounding names (like Rosalie or Helena/Helene, Wilhelmina for awhile, and I love Ariana for girls, and Sebastian is my main boy option) but lately I've found myself drawn to something a little less like that: Lyra. I actually really love it, I love how it sounds on its own, and with my partner's last name, which is a longer Polish name ending in -ski, but relatively easy to pronounce compared to some. Perhaps this is why I am finding myself drawn to shorter names.I just don't know how it would fair in the real world, what names to use with it, and what to name some of Lyra's potential siblings.Thoughts?

I know siblings named Lyra and Leah. I don't think anyone ever thought twice about Lyra's name, but she was older than Leah and myself, so I don't know if she had any comments about it. I think it's a pretty name, which I first heard from "The Golden Compass". I really like Lyra and Orion because they just sound so cute together. You could always add Atlas to the mix if you were going for that theme. Honestly, I like subtle themes (most probably wouldn't get it) and since Phoebe is a moon it can add to that connection and your family. If it's a really long last name, I wouldn't make the middle name or given name too many syllables. Family names are always my favorite, but some other options:
Lyra Delphine
Lyra Felicity (probably too long)
Lyra Cecile
Lyra Jade
Lyra Celestine (too starry/heavenly?)

I adore Lyra ^_^ It was on the list for our girls for ages and only got kicked off because our son is Leo. I think it would fair fine in the real world. It's not hard to say, and the pronunciation is easy to get from the spelling. Anyone familiar with Philip Pullman will know it. It's adorable on a little girl and it'd age with real class, I think.Possible Lyra siblings:
Elodie
Seren
Maren (MAH-ren)Conrad
Niko
SethMiddle names:
Lyra Calanthe
Lyra Celeste
Lyra Camille
Lyra Marion
Lyra Josephine
Lyra Jasmine
Lyra Katherine
Lyra Vashti

I love your suggestions... Definitely thinking along the lines of Lyra Josephine if I do use it, family name for the win!

Seems to follow current trends, without being trendy itself. I mean, look at the acceptance of Lyric lately. It's like Lila, Lily, Lydia, Lyric and Laura... but just a smidge different (in a good way). I think it would fair well as a name right now. Lyra can be taken more musically (lyre) or astrologically, so:I imagine a musical Lyra would have two brothers named Jubal and Reed and a sister named Celeste. A more astral Lyra might be part of a sibset including sisters Lyra, Seren and Chandra and younger brothers Evren and Glenn. That said, Lyra would match any number of names and pairs well with natur-y choices like Arden and Selene.

I'm like you and tend to have more traditional/old fashion favorites. But that being said, Lyra is nice. Feminine and pretty, but not trying too hard to be different. If it were me, I'd probably pair it with a more tradtitional middle name or perhaps a family name. Lyra Jane, Lyra Corinne or Lyra Camille are the first few to come to mind. For siblings, I like:Adele/Adela
Blythe
Maren
Elodie
Chloe
Rowan
Calanthe
Bryony
Phoebe
Thea
Hazel
Wren
CelesteZane
Landon
Leo
Caspian
Orion
Milo
Bram
Matthias

I actually had a bit of looksie through the family tree, and found a few I really like:Lyra Josephine
Lyra Willow (because William is a family name but I feel Wihelmina is too long and Wilma just doesn't sit right)
Lyra Ingrid Lyra Gretchen or Lyra Rose or Rosalie would work for my partners family names.I really like your suggestions, I took Lyra and Orion would be the cutest, nerdy star siblings ever.Phoebe is in the family (well spelt like Phebe but no thanks) and I was thinking Lyra Phoebe but maybe they're better as sisters!
