My name is Brett, and I'm a female. My mom named me this because she wanted me to get accepted anywhere with a unisex name and no prejudice about whether I was a male or female, also, she just plain loved the name. The first time she heard a woman with this name it was Brett Somers - an actress who was married to Jack Klugman ( the tv series Odd Couple ), but she was adamant I wasn't name after her, but just because my mom loved the name. My uncle told me about 'The Sun Also Rises' and I think that it's pretty cool to share a name that Hemingway chose for one of his characters. People around me have nicknamed me "Brettolini", "Brettsy" and "Brettini". Why just using my name isn't good enough is beyond me. My mother nicknamed me 'Tater Tot' when I was very young, and I like that too. All of you making comments about 'someone I knew with this name...blah blah" - I'm not 'someone you knew' , I am me and I share this name with a very famous athlete - Brett Neider - who has won numerous awards. I love my name, and I'm glad Mom had the guts to give me a name that wasn't the most popular at the time, like Heather, Ashlee, or some made up name.
