Robert Downey Jr. & wife Susan welcome baby girl
Avri Roel was born November 4th. She joins big brothers Exton (2) and Indio (21).Thoughts? I'm pretty sure Avri isn't a typo for Avril.

First I thought Avri Roel was Hebrew, but apparently it isn't.
I think all the names (except for Elias) are awful. Avri Roel sounds harsh.

Not awesome, but I'd rather be Avri than Exton. Exton is so painfully ugly.

I wouldn't use any of these, but I'm not hating Indio, Exton, and Avri together.
But if it's just a tryndee Avery, I am disappointed.
Have an interest in Roel now though. As for the others, I've always thought Indio Falconer was quite daring and very cool.
Exton Elias flows great, but isn't my style.

ExplanationI can't post the link right now, but there's an article by People with more explanation. It's pronounced AY-vree, like Avery,Roel is to honor grandparents RObert and ROsemary and ELsie and ELiot.
TBH, before I clicked the btn link, I assumed it'd be ro-el, not rool. Article doesn't say though.

I liked Avri better pronounced AV-ree.And Roel.. I would have preferred Roelle. Looks more feminine than Roel.

It's awfully convenient that the grandparents have such matchy-matchy names that they could be mashed together to honor four of them in a single four-letter invention.

It does happen though. DH's grandmother is Conchita (and his mother) and mine is Concetta. granted they married a Roberto and Salvatore... but I guess those share a "to" too. Convenient in both cases, for sure.

Wow. That's an awkward sounding combo.

Avril would have been remarkably better.

I kind of like it if it's AV ree, not so much if it's AY vree. Exton is poo. Wasn't Indio the baddie in Fistful of Dollars, or one of those films?

Honestly it looks like they're naming all their kids fantasy character names. Avri could be an Avery variant, but Roel is a boy's name and it's not even vaguely unisex to me. Exton sounds like a British town. Indio is just straight up fantasy character. Honestly, Avri isn't that bad. It's not great, but I don't feel any animosity towards it. But Roel as a girl's name just feels really wrong.

Indio is awesome. And I can understand Exton. And I like Avri, so overall it's a good sibset.
However, I don't get Roel. It's masculine. And it sounds pretty awful with Avri.

Avri is... a contracted form of Avery? Something that just "sounded cool?"
Roel is a Dutch masculine name. His son with Deborah Falconer is named Indio, which is either a masculine form of India (and thus comes from the Indus River) or a contracted form of Indigo. His son with Susan Downey is Exton Elias.I like Elias, and I don't think Indio is too terrible, but... RDJ has odd taste in names, I must say. Celebrities in general seem to.

How is it pronounced? Is it like Avery, or is like AV-ree?

Oh, I didn't even make the Avery connection! I just saw it written, so I'm not sure how it's pronounced... I instinctively said it "AV-ree" in my own head.
