Timelessness of names
I've been in love with Josephine and Jordan for a girl and considered them my first two choices for my daughters (though, I admit I am ripping off another user, but I can't remember who). However, as much as I adore Jordan for a girl, I've been debating the timelessness of Jordan. Jordan is declining in popularity for both genders, but faster for females. Maybe the trends will change, but it has me wondering if by the time I have a second daughter, she would face hard time being named a predominantly boy's name. Thus I am wondering if I should just use Caroline instead since that is timeless and strictly feminine. Do you think Jordan already established itself as a unisex name, even in the future, or should I just play safe with Caroline.

Yeah ... if you're concerned about timelessness, you do have to ask yourself, "Why is Jordan dying so rapidly?" ;-)I don't think that being named Jordan, after it has mostly reverted to being masculine, would give her any harder of a time than it would if you did it in the 90s. Even at the peak of its popularity, there were about twice as many boys being named Jordan as girls. Since in the future, presumably Jordan would be infrequent on boys as well as on girls, it's kind of no biggie IMO, that it's not being used on girls anymore, as long as it's not really being used on boys either. It's a little bit like Robin for a boy. There are still enough male Robins alive, and Robin isn't popular enough for girls, that naming a boy Robin today would still be fine. It might be a bigger concern that Jordan is a "mom name." Unless, of course, Jordan takes off again for boys - like what happened with Adrian which was used just a little bit for girls for a few decades, but has gotten much more popular for boys since. I wouldn't want to be a female Adrian born now. But it doesn't seem to me like Jordan is going to make a big comeback as a boy name.I like Caroline too. But, I think pronouncing it Carolyn would be as much of a bother for her, as it would be for Jordan to be mistaken for a guy.

I think it will stay unisex. However, Josephine and Jordan are very different in style. Josephine and Caroline sounds a lot better together, and they are both fairly classic. I'm already considering Jordan to be outdated, and it will only keep decreasing in popularity.

Honestly, I think Jordan is kind of bizarre paired with Josephine. They're so starkly different. Jordan to me is a dated 80s unisex name that needs to be retired. Caroline and Josephine go better, but I'd hesitate to use both together because of the matching "ine" endings, but that's my problem :)

I pronounce it "KER-oh-lihn", so it would be a problem for me
