What do you think of the name Randal?
I have liked the name Randal on and off, but find that it doesn't always receive the best reception. What do you all think of it? Do you prefer the spelling Randal or Randall?

I don't like Randall / Randal. I was thinking the other day about how I don't like the nn Randy / Randi for Miranda and then I realized I really don't like Randy as a nn for Randall / Randal either. Then I realized I don't like Randall / Randal either.I prefer the spelling Randall but I don't like this name. It makes me think of a really boring guy who's somewhere between a nerd, a dork, and a pervert. I usually like nerds and dorks but Randall makes me think of the kind of nerds and dorks I occasionally meet who I hate who are super boring and hyper critical and pedantic of everything and they often demean you.

Randall is the the snivelly, snotty weird kid in the corner.Sorry. That's just what I think of when I hear that name. I'm really not trying to be rude, but I do imagine someone like stated above. It's really weird how certain names have certain associations in our minds....I'm sure some people really love it.

Randal in places where Randy does not mean sexually overexcited and Randal in places where it does would get very different receptions. So it's a geographical issue.Randall looks like a lnfn, and Randal harks back to the medieval ballad of Lord Randal, where it might well have been his ln as well. I don't mind the one-L version, though I certainly wouldn't use it, for geographical reasons.

I didn't realize that randy functioned as an adjective for a lustful person until I posted this, so thank you for making me more aware. I can see why there is a need for caution when using it.

Since we don't use the name here, my only association is Monters Inc. (which I do love, but Randall is the bad guy).

I dislike both spellings. Its a greasy name to me, not in a dirty sense but in a sleazy sense. I just imagine some down home hick catcalling women, or even worse...a serial killer. I know, sorry. If it helps you, it also makes me think of Randal from Monsters Inc, which I suppose is a little better association, though not great.

Not a fan. It reminds me of the bad guy in Monsters Inc.

it always reminds me of Randall from Monsters Inc. It's alright, not my favorite. I hate the possibility of the nick name Randy. Interestingly enough it's my husband's grandpa's name and it fits him perfectly!

I much prefer Randolf. Randal is ok but rhymes with vandal. Randall looks more complete. I love Rand but hate Randy
