Re: Your favorites/least favorites
Um... I don't have any least favorites from this list. I would use them all. Every single one of them. But since that's probably not helpful at all, I can rank them in order of which ones I like best. 1. Susannah - I love this name and everything about it: history, elegance, meaning, classic-yet-uncommon, etc.2. Eliza - a less buttoned up version of Elizabeth, spunkier yet just as graceful3. Adela - romantic but not elaborate, the best of both worlds4. Sylvie - love this name and the feeling it gives me, grown up and elegant but spritely5. Margot - (see Frances)6. Frances - I can never decide if I would name a child this as a first name, but I use it consistently in combos as a middle name because it grounds elaborate names and adds history to more modern ones. It's beautiful.7. Louisa - that A makes all the difference in giving sophistication to a classic name8. Eleanor - beautiful, historical, nickname potential, couldn't ask for more9. Cecilia - my favorite version of this is Cecily, but I like Cecilia and Celia as well; they are all such delicate, feminine names that
stand strong by themselves10. Agnes - a bit of an ugly duckling, but there's such femininity and strength in Agnes11. Laura - simple and classic; I don't like Laurel though, I feel like it's gilding the lily a little too much12. Lark - my favorite one syllable-name; I can't explain why I love it 13. Diana - just like Adela as romantic but not elaborate, only more historic; there's a whole lot of dignity in those three syllables14. Julia - classic and familiar, historical and cross-cultural, got to love it15. Jane - simplicity at her best elegant self16. Grace - simple and evocative (the clear meaning does set some bars pretty high for whoever wears it though)17. Sally - a little girl's name, but a fun and wearable one18. Katherine - if it was Catherine I would have ranked it higher, but either way it's a tried and true classic with plenty of versatility19. Emily - I like the name but it's so popular, classic and a little too familiar right now20. Claire - not overused but familiar, classic and evocative, but this name doesn't have as much spark as some of the others21. Isabel - definitely overused right now, but this spelling always makes me think of the Spanish queen and so I love the regal feel and the strength 22. Polly - needs to be a nickname for something longer on paper, Pauline or Leopoldine or something, but I would love to meet one who uses it day-to-day23. Rebecca - another one with a lot of history, but no spark; it would be higher on the list if I didn't dislike the nickname Becky so much (I love the Hebrew/Yiddish version Rivka)
