Julia v. Juliet?
Hi,Hoping you can help me find the perfect name!My husband and I are naming our daughter with a "J" name, in order to honor his father (who passed away 2 years ago). In our faith, it's common to take the first initial of someone you want to remember, and use that for the first name. This is a non-negotiable point, so "J" it is.We are pretty much down to three names - Julia, Juliet, and Jordana.I think our top choice is Juliet, but I really love Julia as well (probably more so than my husband). Our last name sounds like "Silver" but it's a little more uncommon than that.Which do you prefer? Does anyone have a good suggestion for a middle name that fits well with each? (We are thinking 1 or 2 syllables names flow the best)?
Right now, we have on the list:Juliet Drew
Juliet Blake
Juliet Elise
Juliet Brooke
Juliet Brynne
Juliet Gwenyth
Juliet May
Juliet Morgan
Juliet Susannah
Juliet TaliaAnd -
Julia Charlotte
Julia Blake
Julia Brooke
Julia Drew
Julia Devon
Julia Morgan
Julia Brynne
Julia EliseSuggestions or comments appreciated. With Juliet, we don't want anything too flowery for the middle. Our daughter's name is Abigail - so I think Abby and Julie sounds really cute together (with Juliet, we'd use Julie as a nickname most likely).BUT --
Is Juliet too "out there" when put next to our daughter's name, Abigail? And would Julia and Abigail be better together? Of course, if you have other suggestions for any of the 3 names, happy to hear those as well. Also - if we go with a "B" for middle name -- does anyone think "JBS" initials are weird? (because of the "BS" connotation)? Thanks a bunch :-)

My vote is for Julia. It is a steadier name, whereas Juliet is going through a sudden popularity peak (see http://www.babynamewizard.com/baby-name/girl/juliet) which means it will likely sound dated to future generations. Julia is an older classic whose popularity fallen & risen over time, but not in sudden spurts (http://www.babynamewizard.com/baby-name/girl/julia). I personally like the sound of Julia better. Juliet has that awkward issue of enunciating the "t" (some people do and some let it hang). I like the stress on "JU" instead of "ET." My favorite of your combos is Julia Charlotte.I don't think Juliet is too "out there" to pair with Abigail at all. They are both pretty girls names that have 3 syllables. I do think Julia & Abigail would pair more nicely though. They are closer in popularity. Congrats & good luck!

Juliet is my top favourite girls name too! I defintely don't think it's too out there. Julia is also nice. Not a fan of Jordana,it reminds me of the makeup brand and just doesn't sound pretty to me.
My favourite Juliet combo is Juliet RosaAslo...
Juliet Fiona
Juliet Matilda
Juliet Nadia
Juliet Willow

I constantly go back and forth between Julia and Juliet as one of my favorite names, so I feel your pain. :-) And no, I don't think Juliet is too "out there" - it's from one of Shakespeare's most enduring plays, and just about every English-speaker on the planet has read it at some point. It's true that it could lead to "Hey, where's your Romeo?" jokes, but there are worse jokes out there for other names. From the combos you've listed, I like:Juliet Elise
Julia Charlotte
Julia Brooke
Julia Elise - I actually know someone with this name. Elise has often struck me as one of the classiest middle names to choose.Julia is definitely the more versatile of the two, at least in my view, since I think Juliet only looks and sounds right with a middle name that begins with a vowel. My current stock combo is Juliet Adele (or Juliet Adela). For Julia, I also like Julia Clarice / Julia Clarisse.

Guess which one I prefer ;)Clearly, I'm partial to Julia. It's an excellent name and I highly recommend it. But even if it weren't my own name, I really dislike Juliet. It's fussy and melodramatic and over-the-top IMO, and the Romeo and Juliet connection doesn't help matters. Julia and Juliet both work well with Abigail and JBS initials wouldn't bother me at all. Drew, Blake, and Devon are 100% boys' names. Don't saddle your daughter with them. Morgan and Brynne are also pretty masculine. Julia Charlotte is definitely my favorite from your list -- it's classy, timeless, and lovely. Elise is pretty as well but Julia Elise is kind of a mouthful. For the record I like Jordana as well, but it's so much less familiar than Jordan that I think a Jordana would spend a lot of time correcting people.Other MN ideas for Julia:
Julia Vivian
Julia Camille
Julia Rachel
Julia Simone
Julia Sophie
Julia Mary
Julia Belle
Julia Kate
Julia May (this flows better than Juliet May to me)

Juliet because in my personal expirences, every Julia I have ever come across, let's just say I never cared for them. Julia comes to mind my cousin's girlfriend who I never cared for.
The name alone is fine but from my expirences, I would never use it-at least not on a child. I also just prefer other names over itEven with my expirences, I always liked Juliet more despite not being a shakesphear fan at all. Juliet is pretty but I would never see myself using it in real life. Too close to my cousin's girlfriends name and the association of shakesphear is nearly unavoidable. If I did use juliet, it would be for a character or pet
Juliet Morgan

I've always preferred Juliet - it seems lighter and more relaxed and cheerful than the more stiff and snobbish Julia. And I agree that Abby and Julie are a good pair.Juliet Laura would be my choice. Or Juliet Mary, rather than May. Juliet Miriam could also work. Juliet Theodora? Juliet Beatrice? (I don't think the initials could possibly be a problem.) Or Juliet Dinah?

Julia and Abigail are great together. Juliet and Abigail are great together. I don't even know that I would say one is more fitting than the other. Juliet and Abigail are more interesting together, I think. Juliet Drew - doesn't flow super well because of the -t D- in the middle
Juliet Blake - I don't like the very girl Juliet with the very not-girly Blake
Juliet Elise - Super pretty
Juliet Brooke - okay
Juliet Brynne - very nice
Juliet Gwenyth - great!
Juliet May - so sweet. I like Juliet Mae better, but very nice either way
Juliet Morgan - Huh, unexpected but good
Juliet Susannah - I'm enjoying it.
Juliet Talia - They run into each other in the middleJulia Charlotte - boring
Julia Blake - it's okay
Julia Brooke - fine
Julia Drew - What did Julia draw?
Julia Devon - Hey, not bad. Not my style, but not bad at all
Julia Morgan - Nice.
Julia Brynne - Pretty
Julia Elise - doesn't flow as well as Juliet EliseThe BS thing doesn't matter at all when it's the middle and last initial.

I think Julia, Juliet, and Jordana are all nice honestly, and if I were to order them starting with which I liked best I think I'd go with Jordana, Juliet, and then Julia. Even if you plan on using Julia as a nn for Juliet, I'd still prefer Juliet (though my favorite nickname for "jul" names is Jules! Too cute imo). I like (I tried to order starting with the best, keeping your last name in mind):Juliet Susannah
Juliet Charlotte
Juliet May
Juliet Drew
Some more suggestions (in no particular order-- C names really stood out to me for some reason, and I tried to avoid anything too flowery):Juliet Corinne
Juliet Clara
Juliet Camille
Juliet Caroline
Juliet Charis
Juliet Celeste
Juliet Catrina
Juliet Coralie
Juliet Cara
Juliet Celine

Thanks for the feedback! I like your "C" middle name suggestions- I have always loved the name Clara, and those go nicely together. Will suggest to my husband!

I like Juliet a little better. Julia is slightly better suited with Abigail, however, a combination like Juliet Susannah gives Juliet a closer feel to Abigail.Speaking of, Juliet Susannah is my favorite. Julia Charlotte is nice, too.

Thank you! I love Juliet Susannah as well. Especially with our last name starting with an "S" - I think it flows nicely.Appreciate the insight.

Between Julia and Juliet, I prefer Juliet although I like the timeless Julia as well. Juliet Susannah is gorgeous. It's a combo I'd actually use (sans the h on the end of Susanna). For Julia, I like Julia Charlotte, Juliet Brooke, Julia Brynne (can't decide if I prefer this spelling or Brynn) and Julia Elise.I don't think Juliet is too out there with Abigail if she'd be called Julie or even Jules. Stylistically, I do prefer Abigail and Julia. I wouldn't worry about JBS initials which is a completely different kettle of fish than BS (THAT I wouldn't do). Re: Jordana, it's okay. I prefer Jordan, however, I don't care for either paired with Abigail.Combo suggestions for Juliet and Julia:Juliet Christina
Juliet Eve
Juliet RosemaryJulia Caroline
Julia Catherine
Julia Claire
Julia Corinne (guess you can tell I love Julia paired with names beginning with the letter C)
Julia Madeleine
Julia Marigold
Julia Rosalie

Thanks! I'm happy to hear the feedback about JBS if we went with a "B" middle name. That's good.Funny as I think Julia Charlotte is definitely a very popular combination (at least in terms of the feedback I've gotten). I do love the "C" middle names with that name too!I personally love Juliet Susanna(h) as well - not sure my husband is as much of a fan, but maybe I can convince him :) I am starting to really warm up to the idea of an Abby/Julie -- even though I agree, stylistically, I think I like Abigail and Julia better. Thanks so much for your feedback! Super helpful.

I vote for Juliet, especially with the last name. Julia has too many soft sounds for me, it's too wet sounding and I'm not a fan. I need that strong t in Juliet to make me like it. If your last name is all soft sounds too, as in Silver, then its too much for me.I much prefer both options to Jordana though. I think either make good sisters for Abigail, but Jordana doesn't fit as well as the others. My favourite of your Juliet combos is Juliet Elise. I also like Juliet May.My favourte of your Julia combos is Julia Charlotte. It's also the only one I like. Blake, Drew, Devon, Morgan and Bryn are all boy to me.Juliet Claire
Juliet Rowan
Juliet Maeve
Juliet Clara
Juliet Evelyn
Juliet Elsa
Juliet Freya
Juliet Asha
Juliet Saskia
Juliet Hazel
Juliet Cecily
Juliet Brenna
Juliet Lucy

Thank you so much. I never thought about the "soft" sounds and how it would sound too soft with a softer last name. That is very interesting. I do think Juliet has a little more spunk than Julia, and I do love the "Abby/Julie" combo. As for the middle names that are more "boyish", my thinking was that it sort of balances out an uber feminine first name -- but I understand those are not for everyone. Thanks for your really interesting input!

Juliet is the better of the two (Julie and Juliet) and flows better as a sibset name since Abigail goes by Abby, so Juliet would go by Julie. I love Juliet, so I approve. The name is, for sure, not "out there" at all. In fact, it is considered pretty chic right now and no one would bat an eye if you used it. Of your list, I like Juliet Elise the best - but it is also a common pairing on nameboards so it sounds familiar to me. Juliet Claire would be lovely, as would:
Juliet Dawn
Juliet Gwen
Juliet Gail
Juliet Vale
Juliet Pearl
Juliet Slaine
Juliet Wren
Juliet Ruth
Juliet Avis
Juliet Laurel
Juliet Mercy
Juliet Phoebe
Juliet Nadine
Juliet Terese
Juliet Robin
Juliet Irene
Juliet Kelly
*I also have to put my hat in for Jordana. It is not used that often and is lovely.
If you are up for suggestions: Jillian, Joyce, Juniper, Jocelyn, Jorie, Joelle and Josiane are lovely J-names too.

thank you for the great feedback!! funny, i love the name jillian - but that is my niece's name so that's out. :)i do love julie and abby as nicknames for the girls. at first i was worried julie was too '80s, but given that no one really uses it now, i think it's kind of neat to bring it back.juliet elise is for sure a front runner - i appreciate your other suggestions as well - some good ones in there! :)thanks again.

I don't think JB makes weird initials and I don't get the BS reference at all.Julia and Abigail do sound like sisters, more so than Abigail and Juliet, but Juliet is not "out there." I would prefer Juliette, myself, but it doesn't really matter. Avoid a middle name with the oo sound, and Julia Elise is a tongue-tangler.My vote is Julia Devon.

Thank you! "BS" as in the curse word. I know it sounds silly; I think I'm overanalyzing :)I agree Julia Elise is too vowel-y -- and I agree that Julia and Abigail sound more like sister names -- though I love the idea of Abby and Julie (and that they'd both have nicknames if we went with Juliet).A lot to think about...thank you for your thoughts!!
