Lucienne
Hi,Wondering what your thoughts are on the name Lucienne? Lucie as a nickname. Sister is Mirielle, nn Elle. I love French feminine names but Mirielle is hard for people to pronounce (meer e el) just how it looks! And I'm wondering if I name my second daughter a uncommon French name if I'm doing the same thing to her! My other option is Elyse but I'm worried that's too close to Elle. Love Juliette but my husband has vetod it! Opinions appreciated!

I've never heard of Mirielle only Mireile. Nice.Elyse is definitely too close to Elle.Lucienne is nice and easier to pronounce than Mirielle, I think. Plus, Lucie is vey easy to say.How about Marguerite, Nathalie, Josephine, GEnevieve, Marcelle, Pauline, Paulette?

LOVE Mirielle. That was my number one choice since I was a child. I can't even remember why we didn't use it. It's still at the top for DD2. Our nickname was Miri though. Anyway - when I first saw Lucienne in the title, I wasn't crazy about it. But, I really like it as a sibling to Mirielle. Lucie is the perfect nickname to match, especially with Elle. And, I wouldn't worry about the name having to be explained. I had to explain my name growing up, and I still love it. We named our daughter Clarisse and STILL have to explain it (it seems obvious), but I would never change her name. I think Elyse is a bit close to Elle to use, though I love the name. Juliette is adorbs, but getting trendy... still I am sorry your husband wasn't on board. I say go with Lucienne (which IS pretty). If you need alternatives:
Francine - Fran, Francie, Sina
Leontine - Onti, Tiny, Leona
Faustine - Fausta, Tina
Paulina - Lina, Pauli, etc
Brigitte
Priscilla - Pril, Prilla, Silla
Adrienne - Addie, Renn, Adri
Giselle
Vivienne - Viv, Vivi, Vienne
Adelie
Bettina / Bettine
Daphne
Celeste
Delphine
Genevieve - Genny, Viv
Jocelyn - Josie
Gwendolyn
Suzette - Suzi
Chantal
Sandrine - Sandi
Roxanne - Roxy
Elmira - mira
Nadine - Nadi, Dina

I like it. No one will mess up Lucie (plus it's a cute nn) and Lucienne is beautiful and elegant. The sibset works too. Mirielle and Elyse sounds odd.

I like Lucienne. I don't think it'd be too difficult for English-speakers and if it is, everyone can say Lucie. Actually, my bigger concern would be that she'd spend half her life correcting people who spelled her nickname Lucy.Elyse is too close to Elle, yeah, and I really dislike the Y spelling.
