Retro Family
What do you think of these names together?
Thea
Hester
Edwin
Jethro
Abner
Dorothy
Sibyl
Wilbur
Irma
Chic? Each of them is resonating with me hardcore right now. Any middle name suggestions? Thanks. I feel like Francis, Frances, or Francine needs to be involved here. Hmmm, I think Rosalind and Jacqueline should also make an appearance! And Margot. Sylvia, not so much. Louise, though!

I love Edwin, Jethro and Abner, but that's all I'm sorry! Esther I would much prefer to Hester, Theo I would much prefer to Thea and Dorothy, Sibyl, Wilbur and Irma I could leave altogether. I would prefer:Rosalind
Esther
Jethro
Abner
Edwin
Louisa (I prefer Louisa for a fn)

Thea feels out of step with the others, and the thought of Thea and Dorothy for sisters doesn't wow me.

I love Thea, Edwin, Francine and Sybil. Margot and Rosalind bug me - too frilly and romantic. I love Sylvia, like Jacqueline. Prefer Erma to Irma - Erma Bombek is a hero. Jethro is super hipster and trying too hard. All I hear with Wilbur is Mister Es neighing it. Doris is cooler than Dorothy - Dorothy is weak and whiny, Doris can take care of herself. And Abner...again, classic TV has ruined it for me. All I can hear is Gladys Kravitch yelling it in a high pitched voiced.

Hehe, the definition of the undefinable hipster, is this sibset! (not being snide just saying)The ones I think are chic are the girl names. Except Hester, which is still hissing and unkempt to me. The guy names are hit and miss with me - I think Edwin and Wilbur have a great deal of style, but Jethro and Abner are scary old farts.Instead of Thea - Thelma, maybe? Theda is okay but has too much glam for the set. Only Edwin competes with that. Anyway, Thea / Theda and Dorothy in the same set makes me twitch a bit (nn for Theodora).
Francis goes with the girls, less with the guys. Francis is more of a conventional chic like Iris, though.
Frances goes with all of them, and Rosalind almost does.
Francine, Margot, Sylvia, Louise, and Jacqueline belong in a different set together, maybe with Thea.Middle names maybe
Thea Meryl
Hester Yolanda
Edwin Ernest
Jethro Hannibal
Abner Otis
Dorothy Renata
Sibyl Constance
Wilbur Grant
Irma Phyllis

Oh, I love it! I would definitely supplant Thea with Freda, though. Sisters named Hester Jacqueline and Irma Rosalind or Freda Jacqueline and Irma Rosalind or Freda Rosalind and Irma Jacqueline would make me swoon. ETA: Our tastes are intersecting at the moment. Other names that I currently love and that complement the names you've provided are Avis, Beryl, Inez, Fern, Myrna, Cecil, Cyril, and Roger.

Your taste does intersect with mine often, especially when I am in my warm phases and want more color and more boldness. There are times where I am in cooler, more puritanical moods. Lately I have discovered that the herb extract turmeric when combined with black pepper is a very effective antidepressant for me (with no side-effects), so expect more warm names as my creativity has been stimulated and enhanced by this new Ayurvedic regimen. I think my taste in names is a direct indicator as to when my creative energy is flowing or retreating.I like Fern, Inez, Cecil. I prefer Cyrus (I have a cousin Cyrus) to Cyril, but I think Cyrilla for a girl is intriguing.

The only names I like ok are Thea, Edwin, Hester, and Sibyl. They names fit fine together though. I think Rosalind and Margot are too posh for this set, which is retro-chic, but not in a fashionable way. In fact Thea feels a little out of place also- too fashionable. Those 3 would live in a set more like...Thea
Henry
Edwin
Margot
August
Rosalind
Sylvie
Iris

You just killed my list. The replacements you chose are far less fresh; safe and newly wilting. Last season Prada. August, Sylvie, and Iris are particularly vexing to me.

What are you going to do if these names become like "last season Prada," though? Abandon them?

If they become stale, then yes, I will. I recognize that not all things have to be timeless. Some are just markers of the state of things for the creator.Fashion is all about rebellion. Once something becomes fashionable, there will be rebellion against that, too.

Yeah I know, that's what I meant. I wasn't suggesting you replace your list, I was pointing out that Thea, Rosalind, and Margot (and Edwin) don't belong there

I think Thea is the odd one out. However, Thea is very popular among children where I live so I can't see how it's retro/chic. I understand that it's different where you live, but yeah...I'd change Thea to something else. Thea Margot (or Margot Thea?)
Hester Jacqueline
Edwin Francis
Jethro Quentin
Abner Solomon
Dorothy Anne
Sibyl Rosalind
Wilbur James
Irma Louise

The only one that has a "chic" vibe at all is Thea. Jethro seems to be a minor hipster pet, but it's so goddamn ugly I can't say it has a vibe of anything other than "so goddamn ugly."
I kind of like Dorothy, but not enough to use it.
The others suck.

Maybe I should replace Thea with Theda! Or Freda!
