Unusual Old Names
I was looking through the genealogy of a random person because I'm random that way. I found some names and name combos I thought were especially interesting or unusual.
For boys: Amariah Alpheus, Ashbel Archibald, Benajah Abner, Elmer Bethuel, Oren Bethel, Leander Francis, Willis Olin, and Dolphus Elgin. For girls: Maple Mabel, Mary Elmetta, Della Lou, Lavina Aljena, and Lulu Pearl.
Boys: Cheniah, Stillwell, Dastel, Epheneniah, Eliphalet, Diadem, Hepsibah, Abijah, Caton, Erastus, Amasa, Azel, Jabez, Addison, Artemas, Whitman, Alanson, Prosper, Lonoza, and Cornel.Girls: Kezia / Keziah / Kesiah, Zuriah, Ruhamah, Lista, Lurana, Aiperry, Hibera, Dovie, Loela, Zerua, Arminda, Orpha, Malinda, Anstress, Anstis, Dennis, Levina, Almirah, Freelove, Philura, Phylena, Lovetta, Marassa, Hezekiah, Keturah, Lovina, Marinda, Calvana, Lodemia, and Melvina. There were many boys in the family tree named Alpheus or had Alpheus as a mn. I know Alphonse is quite popular on here and Alfie is a very popular name in the UK so I thought Alpheus was an interesting name that could use Alfie as a nn.Someone on here mentioned the name Maple recently as a favorite of theirs and I oddly had never thought of it before as a name. I'm currently really liking it. Maple Mabel is such a silly cute name combo I just had to mention it. It's interesting I've read a bit of Robert Frost before but until the other day I had never read his poem titled Maple which is about a girl named Maple. Her name is often confused for being Mabel. The person from the genealogy website named Maple Mabel was born in the 1700's far before Robert Frost.

Genealogies are my favorite place to go "namegazing!" I like the FNs that are obviously from surnames like Whitman & Stillwell. The wide variety of biblical names is interesting. Hepsibah for a girl and Hezekiah for a boy? Hmm. Orpha, Keziah, Keturah are girls' nice names you don't hear as much anymore. Abijah and Jabez could probably have a comeback for the boys too. I wonder if Benajah is supposed to be Benaiah. My favorite from this list is Philura! I'd never heard it before, but now I'm researching it to hopefully add it to the user-submitted database.Prosper is also a GP of mine.Great list, thanks!

Benajah was used multiple times in the genealogy so I don't think that it was misspelled. It may have been pronounced like Benaiah since I know that j's sometimes have the same sound as i's or y's in some European cultures.
