My parents didn't really care about names; they didn't really obsess and plan about what my name would be. My name would've been Damian if I'd been a boy; it was the name of my uncle's friend, and my mother really liked the name. My mother's childhood Cabbage Patch Kid was named Edith, so that name was also a possibility. My father suggested Gemma/Jemma, and my mother really liked it. If only she'd spelled it "Jemma" rather than "Jema"...
