Misread the question at first. I've never rated names with numbers or I don't often because my feelings change day to day and sometimes minute to minute. Certain names are fairly steady but most flit around. All my favorite names are either 9's or 10's and if they fall too low for too long I remove them from the list of top favorites.

For example Silas is either barely in the top 25 boys names these days for me or just outside of it.

9/10 - love it and would use it
8 - like it a lot but not a top contender
6/7 - pretty good for someone else
4/5 - kind of indifferent
3 - dislike
2 - hate
1 - hate it and wish it was never used again

10: I like it, might use it, wouldn't mind being named it, and I can't think of any reasons for anyone else to dislike it either (that aren't just their personal idiosyncrasies).

9: I like it, think most people would find it nice/decent.

8: Either it's a name I really like and would use that would otherwise be a 7, or it's a name I think is likeable that I personally don't happen to be into.

7: Either it's a name I especially like that would otherwise be a 6, or it's a name I think ought to be likeable or at least neutral to a plurality of people - I can think of one or two relatively insignificant reasons / associations that I think make it less than fabulous.

6: Has a couple things going on that make it the kind of name only those who really love it would use. Associations that most people recognize. Or else it's a name that would be a 7, except I personally have negative feelings about it stronger than I think most people do.

5: I think it's usable but likely to turn people off (it turns me off a little even though I don't think it's actually bad). Or else, I know it's mediocre but I happen to kinda like it.

4: A really mediocre but acceptable name, that I would not want to be named, I tend to judge people named it, and I would feel a tiny bit sorry for someone named it. Or else, a 5 that I really happen to loathe.

3: Either it's a 4 that I personally loathe, or it's a name I think is bordering on unusable because it would be so broadly judged bad.

2: A junk name with a serious flaw or very bad associations, that I dislike a lot or would bet most people would judge. A bad name for clear reasons.

1: It disappoints me so much, and expect others to hate it so much, that it makes me wonder if people who use it are deliberately being provocative.
