Charleston as a girl's name?
What about Charleston with a nickname of Charlie? Saw this on a new television show. We lived in Charleston SC for about six years and it holds a special place in our hearts. Could it work? I have never heard it before.

Don't name your daughter after a city. She'll only be laughed at or behind her back. She'll resent you for it. Think Paris Hilton, hence why you've never heard of it.
It is without coincidence that traditional names are now the most common baby names. The generation of new age/modern names are having children and naming them biblical or other traditional names. Especially the children of hippies, they never liked their names.
Why not Charlotte, Carla, Carlotta or etc?
You could call her Charlie for short or Lottie.

Keep in mind that Charleston was named after King Charles II.

I prefer Charleston for a boy. I can't see the appeal for a girl. However, it does have meaning for you so it works.
You watching 'State of Affairs' too? :)
I don't mind Charlie as a nickname on a girl, but Charleston isn't awesome. I don't hate it, but it feels a bit silly to me. So yeah, it could work, I think. I just don't love it.

It's awful, sorry.
Charles is masculine. "Ston" is masculine. The whole name just screams male - definitely not suitable as a girls name.

It sounds like a pretentious boys' name. No, just no.
I think it's okay for a boy, but I'm not diggin' it for a girl. Sorry.
No.
Most people in this board would call me absolutely crazy but I think Charleston with Charlie as a nickname could work for a girl. Toni or Tony could also be nicknames for a girl names Charleston.
After all, there were 22 girls names Charleston in 2013. So, it's not really popular (if you're into names that are not on the popularity list).

Apparently we are in the minority! I didn't expect such forceful distaste. But, good to know nevertheless.
It's an eye-roller. Charleston would be fairly pompous and full of itself on a boy. On a girl it screams "trying for that southern aristocracy look." And I think the nn Charlie on a girl is lame anyway, so self-consciously tomboyish it actually winds up being unspunky and uncute.
