Re: Our List...
Congrats.Girls:Cassidy - eh. I like the sound and look of Cassidy and it does seem feminine to me, but it also seems a little bit like a namedrop, and has that trendy surname style that just isn't my style. It's the same style as Brittany, Lindsey, Whitney, Beverly, Lesley, Kimberly, Kelsey, Kelly, Courtney, Shelby. I think they become dated quickly and in the process they usually lose most or all of their charm. Cassidy is partly redeemed by being able to hide its true nature behind the nicknames Cassie or Cass, appearing to represent Cassandra or Cassia. Sabrina - is dignified, not too fashionable or unfashionable, even has a cute nickname Bree. Not a personal favorite but I think it's good.Evelyn - I just don't personally like this. It leaves me cold. I have to invent reasons not to like it, because I know it's a fine name. Here I go: It looks like Carolyn/Marilyn/*lyn trend, sounds about age 60 and stodgy, has a falling glum sound said aloud ... yeah whatever, right? You like it. I think I just wouldn't want to be a girl named Evelyn in 2020. I'd rather see Ellen, Eve, or Madeline.Sierra - I like Sierra. I think it has a sort of mediocre feeling, somewhere between Aubrey and Destiny ... but I still like it. It evokes the Sierra Nevada Mountains for me and sounds breezy but not trivial. I think I slightly prefer Sienna which is less dynamic but somehow tidier. Anyway, thumbs up on SierraViolet - dramatic name. I do like it. Have had it on my favorites list since about 2000 and like to see kids named it. But, I'd never use it myself. I'm more of an Iris person.Boys:
Harrison - is alright. One of the few -son names I am ok with. Probably thanks to H. Ford. It comes off a little bit ... un-dashing, or something, to me. It's so reliable and calm that it lacks energy. But it's not bad.Nathan - good name. Not very memorable, maybe. My daughter has a friend named Nathan. It's fashionable but not trendy, and it's friendly and cool. Doesn't appeal all that much to my personal taste. Probably because of the word "prognathism," and I know that's stupid but I get these weird associations...Jasper - good name. Like Nathan, but sounds a little more aggressive to me. I like it somewhat more than Nathan.Dominic - I like Dominic. It's cool.Finn - I do not like Finn. I find it annoying. Reminds me of the word thin, and sounds artificial or characterish to me, almost dandified. I'd rather see Flynn.- mirfak
