Does Roland River...
sound too much like "rolling river", and if so, is it a bad thing? Like, terribly bad? If it helps, we rarely say all 3 of our kids' names out loud. If Caemlyn is getting in trouble, for example, (like when a child's fn-mn would be used), she's either Sparrow Gail or just Gail. Huck is usually David Royce or David. So, a Roland River Mn, would probably be River MN or MN, or Roland if a nn is typically used (as opposed to Roland River).

Love my little sparrow, Caemlyn Sparrow Gail; my Hucklebaby, David Royce Huckleberry "Huck"; and my Rain, forever in my heart

Yes, it makes me think of Proud Mary "rollin' on the river".

Roland River sounds a bit like rolling river, also like roll and river. I don't like the flow at all, sorry.

Roland is very handsome. Rolling river didn't occur to me when I first saw the name, but now that you mention it, I can definitely see it. It isn't awful but a bit ridiculous. Perhaps since your children have two middle names, you could put a middle name between Roland and River like Roland Augustus River or Roland Simon River as examples.

Does not work at all, sorry. Roland River really does sound like rolling river and is unappealing to me.

It does, but I like it anyway. (& now I've got Proud Mary stuck in my head)

Ooh, great combo! And I love the alliteration. Yeah, Proud Mary/rolling river was the first thing I thought of when I read it, but as you said it's not like you go around saying it together in public all the time. So I wouldn't let that stop you. Roland is way underappreciated, although I try to not appreciate it too much because it's way too close to my last name. :)

I don't think it is too similar - in fact, I didn't even notice the similarity to the phrase until you mentioned it. I suppose if I heard it said aloud a couple times, I would hear the connection. I think it is fine. I am not a huge fan of alliteration in names... but I do like the juxtaposition of River with a more traditional and dated name in Roland. In this scenario, I guess my major opinion on the name would have a lot to do with the second middle. However, as it stands - I find it more than workable. Plus... Roland does match your current sibset, and River fits right in where it is too.
