Guilty Pleasures
What are the names you love but just couldn't saddle a child with! Mine are Oberon, Titania and Galadriel.

I have a lot of favorite names that would probably make me think "God, poor child" if I really saw them on a child. Some are:
Meadowlark
Quintessence
Renaissance
Serendipity
Snowfall
Windflower

Meadowlark is so pretty. I've also considered it as a GP. There's a lovely song by Fleet Foxes with that name as well.
I got it from a Sarah Brightman song, actually. :)
The only true GP names I have are Minette and Olin.
I adore the name Olin, but it sound very similar to a word in my husband's language for male private parts.
Minette has the same issue with a slang term in the French language.
So - both are names that DH and I would use in a heartbeat, but couldn't "saddle" our children with a name with such vulgar connotations.
sigh.

Midnight-Rose, I'll never call a child this though. But I love the combination.
Belladonna is very pretty, but I can see why you wouldn't want to name a kid after something poisonous.
Cadmium is quite lovely in sound too.

For some reason I have been really loving Tiffany lately, but I would never use it because it is horribly dated and it sounds like a cheerleader from an 80's movie.
Periwinkle is actually rather adorable, but maybe not usable. :)
I would love to meet a Periwinkle!
Do you mind if I use the name? For a story. I have a Brimberry and Birtwhistle that could use a friend? Totally ok if you say no.
(btw, there is a Periwinkle on the Tinkerbelle Fairy series by Disney, called Peri usually)

Tinuviel comes to mind. I'm sure I have more. But many of the names I like and wouldn't consider GPs, some posters here would consider GPs. My taste is a little bit out there compared to a lot of posters here it seems.
For example, I'd have no problem naming a child Oberon or Titania. But certainly not in the same sibset, although it would be funny and probably sad to see how many people recognized the Midsummer Night's Dream reference. I'm afraid, in our current pop culture obsessed society, it would be far too few. :(

Ribbon Rose.
Ever since I saw you post somewhere about Ribbon, I can't get it out of my head. I really really like Ribbon.
to be honest ...
I don't consider any of the names I like to be guilty pleasures. If I like a name, I like it and that's all.
There are plenty of names I like that I don't like well enough to have ever considered using them, but feeling like a child would be "saddled" with a name and liking that name are mutually exclusive in my book.

I could say the same. I usually list names as Guilty Pleasures when I like them but woudn't actually use them for one reason or another.
But, following your logic... I do have two names that I find absolutely lovely - but would be "saddled" names for my children. (mentioned in my post, Olin and Minette).

Whoops. Blaise is our top guy choice - so I am curious why you find it unusable (is it the meaning? lisper?).
Millicent has been on my list too.

really? About Hadassah?
We considered this seriously for our first, but decided that it was too popular in Jewish communities near us.

I absolutely love the name but it's a GP because to the people I've mentioned liking it to (husband, family, coworkers) they've all expressed how horrible they think it is. Now I feel more embarrassed of liking it but I still will never not like it. If any of that made sense...
Awww, that's too bad. I find it far prettier than Esther.
