Rowan- boy or girl?
Rowan is one of the very few names I like on both a boy and a girl. Which do you prefer it on? And good middle name ideas? I'd probably pair it with a very masculine or feminine middle name, depending which gender I used it on. I much prefer it on a boy.

BoyI prefer Rowan as a mans name. It has a handsome masculine sound to it, but it isn't terrible on a girl.

I think it could work decently on either, but I greatly prefer it for a boy. It does give me a more masculine vibe. I like Rowena more than Rowan on a girl.

I prefer it for a boy but I like it for both.

Could go either wayIt's one of the few unisex names that could really go either way. I've met both male and female Rowans.Personally, I slightly prefer it for a male.

Boy, all the way. I dislike it for a girl, but it's one of my long-time favorites for a boy. I've met one of each.

Rowan is very much "girl" for me too. I first encountered it as a name on a female book character, and soon after read another book with another female Rowan, so it became pretty firmly a girl's name in my min after that.

Neither. Rowan is like Darcy and Avery to me. Too masculine for a girl, not masculine enough for a boy. They all float around in this weird in-between world of their own.

I only like it for a boy, but since it's a nature name I consider it unisex. However, if I heard of a new baby with that name but didn't know the sex, I would guess the baby was a girl.Rowan Arthur

I've heard it on a girl, and don't think it's awful, but I prefer it on a boy. Interesting, and familiar, but not overly masculine or harsh. Love it. I have Rowan Alasdair Laszlo as a combo. For middles I also like:Rowan Alasdair
Rowan Matthew
Rowan Lysander
Rowan Alexander

I love Rowan on both. It's also one of the few unisex names that (where I live anyway) doesn't seem to lean either way. It's fairly popular too. I know five Rowans, three boys and two girls. At the moment I'm loving Mari Rowan for a girl. Middle-names, I don't think I'd pair it with something super masculine or feminine because I don't usually like that kind of name, but I wouldn't pair it with anything that could be unisex, not even Kelly or Courtney.

Where I live, Rowan is rare but exclusively male. And I like it a lot, partly because the trees are so wonderful. For a girl, OK Rowena isn't actually a fem form of Rowan but it might as well be and I like it too.

Boy. Can't see it on a girl.

BothI like it on both.I think of Rowan-the-Irish-name as being a boys name, but Rowan-the-nature-name as being unisex. So I like it on both.I would use it as a first name on a boy and a middle name for a girl, personally, but I think because it's the name of a tree it's fair game. And yes, would definitely pair it with a distinctly gendered middle name to make it clear which.

Since the only Rowan I know of is Rowan Atkinson, I can't imagine it on a girl. So, for boys.
I'm not good at middle names, but I think a one-syllable name would fit, like Rowan James or Rowan John.
