Came across a girl called Romany, today. Sister named Tallulah.
I know it is a genuine name (a feminine of Romanus, 'person of Rome'), but it is also an ethnicity, so it felt a bit strange as a given name. Opinions?

Where I live, it's not so much an ethnicity as a very toothsome chocolate biscuit, with coconut in the dough and a chocolate filling. I don't usually enjoy shop biscuits, but I'll munch these ones contentedly any time. As for naming my daughter after them ... perhaps not!

Given how racist a lot of Europeans are towards the Roma, I don't think it's a good idea to name your kid Romany. (I don't have anything against Roma, but they've faced loads of persecution, and I feel like naming a kid Romany/Romani might sound like cultural appropriation.)

Objectively the sound isn't bad, but yup, it seems like an odd choice and it's not something I'd fancy having or using.

I sort of like it's sound but I could never get past the Romani association. The Roma people have faced a lot of persecution. :(
