What do the names you'd choose say about YOU?
I don't know whether or not this has been done before but I thought it might be a fun post. Below I want you to name your ideal sibset or singleton. Then we'll comment on each other's posts with what we think of the names and what we would assume about you from your sibset. After all, a name is more of a reflection of the parent's personality and perceptions than it is of the actual child.Try to use names you would actually give a child for more relevant responses but be sure to give no explanation of why you chose a name or whether it has any significance to you. In this post we're all strangers and we probably wouldn't know (or care).

For some reason, I get the impression you like the sea, or at least voyages of discovery if not specifically on the sea, and also rolling the dice; perhaps you're an ace at Yahtzee.
vote up1
I would assume you are well educated and enjoy reading. If you aren't upper-middle to upper class you give off the appearance of such. You also stand behind your beliefs and your family.
I also love your name choices! Evander and Alasdair are so handsome, and I'm so pleased to see Morgan used for a boy! It has always felt so masculine to me.

Fletcher and Sophia (so-FIE-uh)

I would think that you are well read, but you are also active. Instead of just sitting at home to read, I would think you would take your book to a park to read, feel the wind, sit on the grass, hear the birds, watch the kids playing, etc.
vote up1
Well, I guess I'll use my name choices from the 'thirteen kids' topic:Gwendolen Keturah Iris "Gwen"
Astrid Georgina Leontine
Petra Ottoline Fleur
Melisande Francesca Carmen
Octavia Rosamund Ivy
Wilhelmina Saskia Camille "Mina"Oscar Gabriel Wolfgang
Edmund Felix Jules "Eddie"
Roland Finn Ignatius
Vincent Idris Raphael
Jasper Anton Theodore
Isidore Ludwig Oisin "Sid"
Samuel Morgan Roland "Sam" They're a bit random, but I'm too lazy to make them better :P

I would guess that you are a reader, educated, possibly a player of classical music or enjoy listening to it, enjoy the out of doors and that your favorite things are embellished with lace, beading, or hand embroidery.

This set makes me think you are an energetic person, a bit off beat in a fun-loving, down-to-earth way. I imagine you decorate your home with one-of-a-kind finds from flea markets or antique shops. I would guess your family is educated and into the arts, but not stuffy...slide down the bannister sort of people.
vote up1
Guessing you are possibly a fan of musical theatre. Also getting a feeling that perhaps these names honor loved ones or people you admire. I imagine you like everything to be very neat and orderly and that you decorate simply, but with vivid pops of color in studiously-chosen locations.
vote up1
That is really accurate! I do like musicals and the middles were all honor names :) I'm especially impressed with the fact that you picked up on my style of decorating!

Guessing you have a vivid imagination and enjoy good story telling, especially fairy tales or fantasy. You might be a bit shy but once you get comfortable with someone you don't stop talking. I imagine you are a person who does stop to smell the roses, or notice the phase of the moon or the perfume of blossoms on the breeze. Perhaps you wear what others would consider mismatched patterns but you manage to pull it off.

I'd guess you are a warm person but with a very serious side, that your beliefs are very central to the way you live and interact with others, that you are likely a respectful person and expect respect in kind and that you an energetic, out of doors lifestyle. These don't feel pretentious to me. I'd say you have a liberal streak of romanticism in you and enjoy adventure in the out doors. For me, most of these names feel rather tied to the elements, earth, the universe. I would guess keep a small trove of sentimental keepsakes, such as the bracelet a boy gave you in the 3rd grade.
vote up1
The first part is fairly accurate. I'm an astronomer and there's a fair amount of existential angst involved in that! But I don't have a bracelet given to me by a boy in school - I should be so lucky!
vote up1
I would think you are well read, especially in mythology. I would also think that you tend to be more liberal and not into traditional gender roles.
vote up1
Huh, yeah, that's pretty accurate!
vote up1
I think you're into Ancient Greek mythology, maybe you're a bit of a hopeless romantic, and you're interested in different cultures. I really love the names by the way.
vote up1
I think that's fair!I do like mythology, ancient history. I don't know if I'm a hopeless romantic - I do like the odd Jane Austen adaptation I suppose!

I would guess that you are a warm, gentle soul, devoted to family. I imagine you enjoy making homemade gifts for those you love and that your fireplace (if you have one) is always lit when it's cold. Also guess that some of these names are honoring, if not all of them.

Hmm...I would guess you have an eclectic selection of books in your home and that education is an important focus in your family. I think you may also have a green thumb and a penchant for day dreaming. Your journal reads more like poetry and vines and flowers are doodled in the margins.

You would seem like someone interested in literature.

Obvious appreciation for flowers/nature, perhaps you give cuttings or arrange your own bouquets as gifts. I'm getting an image of candle-making as well. I would guess that black and white, or interplay between light and dark, dominate your fashion sense or home decor.

First thing to come to mind was a game of marbles; I'd guess that you enjoy play, board games, and especially vintage past times, like marbles and jacks, which you intend to hand down to your children so they aren't incapable of entertaining themselves and having fun when the batteries run out. Your girls will likely learn to sew or knit, though they'll spend plenty of time out of doors as well.

First impression is that you have a strong individualist streak and really aren't affected by what anyone else thinks. You enjoy nature, not only enjoy it, but find strong, personal meaning in what you see in the natural world around you. I imagine your home holds a very eclectic blend of furnishings, if not gathered during your own travels, then inspired by the places you plan someday to visit.

Hmm...off the bat, I'd say you enjoy light and things that sparkle; prisms or vintage colored glass hang in or line your windows. I would guess that you are a reader and perhaps write poetry, that clarity and specificity are important to you. Your own heart is your most trusted sounding board when deciding on which side of an issue you'll stand.

You are very musical, have a penchant for trilby hats and own a fantastic Victorian beetle collection inherited from an uncle

You love the changing of the seasons and own a telescope for stargazing, binoculars for bird watching. You sketch or enjoy artists' sketchings more than paintings and played the clarinet in school; you'll encourage your children to be musical as well, but not insist upon it. Santa will always leave a book in your childrens' stockings (or they'll receive a book for the gift occasions your family observes) and they'll always love them because of the way you read them aloud.
vote up1
As a child, you could levitate off the ground by almost an inch

Your children will confound their kindergarten teachers and classmates when it is discovered that they play chess but have no idea what to do with tiddly winks. You'll always speak to your children on an adult level and their manners will be impeccable, not because you harp on them or are strict, but because you inspire them to follow your example. The library or book shelf is the most enticing part of your home and your children know how to properly handle vinyl and operate the turntable.
vote up1
You collect amusing stuffed squirrels in glass cases and secretly harbour a longing to become an opera singer
(also, awesome names!)
vote up1
You seem very well read and into a wide variety of books. Seems like the type of person who works in academia maybe something to do with history. I like Sibyl Octavia and Freda Marigold is very nice.

You have marvellous green fingers and can grow enormous prize vegetables.
vote up1
You live in the inner suburbs of a big city but frequently go on holiday to the countryside. You love cooking and own loads of cookbooks. You're very organised and use a filofax-type diary.
vote up1
I immediately see the color cream and imagine your home is furnished in layered shades of that color; somehow, while your daughters are encouraged to play outdoors, their light-colored clothes are always spotless. You have a knack for finding leather-bound first editions at flea markets and yard sales; your girls will nearly require a second vehicle to haul their most cherished volumes away to college, just as you did.
vote up1
Well, I don't get to do any decorating really, as I'm currently living at my dad's house, but none of the designs I've ever come up with in my head have really involved much cream. I'm of the opinion that children should get dirty on at least a semi-regular basis. I've only ever been to the flea market once, and that was about a month ago! I was on the hunt for records, actually. I did nearly require a second vehicle but not because of books, although I suppose I brought a more than some typically do. I was a voracious reader as a child, but by that time, I had been sucked into the world of fanfiction (so I suppose I actually still was very much a reader, just not of novels) from which I am still struggling to pull myself out. Or rather, I'm trying to find balance between fic and books. I really do miss books. It would be awesome if my hypothetical future children read lots of books though!Anyway, in short (in long?), you were pretty much wrong. :P But it's really cool to hear what other people picture!
vote up1
You are a whiz at jigsaw puzzles and are very fond of oranges
vote up1
You live somewhere cold and own several very nice coats. You love medieval European history, and read historical fiction. You would be a good teacher, but actually work in publishing or finance.
vote up1
I live in Florida. Heh. But I would love to live somewhere cold. I love cooler/cold weather and fall/winter clothing. In fact, despite living in the heat, I DO own two wool blend coats. They're nice, although perhaps not "very nice." I'm reading that as "very fancy" coats.I'm not a history buff, but my interest was always with the Colonial period of/Revolutionary War in the United States, 1920s US, and WWII (particularly the European theater). I read historical fiction when I was a kid, but I haven't read much since.I'm glad you think I would make a good teacher--I want to be one someday! I'm definitely NOT in publishing or finance though; I work as an educational paraprofessional, which means instructional support/teacher's aid, in an elementary ESE classroom.
vote up1
You're clever and articulate, and enjoy reading, especially the classics and things involving magic. Family ties and personalizing traditions are important to you.
vote up1
Congratulations! You're the most right!IQ tests prove I'm clever, although there are those more so than I, of course. Then, there's always the difference between natural intellect and knowledge possessed. I feel like so much of what I learned in school has faded, higher math and sciences especially, so while there are some things that I am very knowledgeable about, there are other things that leave me feeling a bit dull. (It's difficult to say you're smart without coming across as arrogant, isn't it?)I can be articulate at times, but other times, I get tongue-tied and will produce sentences with very few actual words in them. It will be just a garbled mumble of syllables. Haha!I do enjoy reading, although I will admit to the majority of it being fanfiction these days. I'm trying to start reading more books though. I've read a number of classics, and while I appreciate them, I don't enjoy them as much as more contemporary works. I love the Harry Potter series though, so a point for "things involving magic!" I'm a huge family person. I come from a fair sized family, and all of my dad's side is local, so we're constantly hanging out at my grandma's or celebrating one thing or another. My grandma is one of the most important people in my life, and I want to name a daughter for her. Her name is Edna Jean. She was named for her father Edward James. Edith Jane comes from the Ed--- J--- pattern, so I guess personalizing traditions matches too!

You're English. You watch foreign-language films and enjoy learning about the colonial history of places Britain colonised. You go on holiday (or want to go on holiday) to France. You like having vases of flowers in your home. You read a lot of 20th Century classic novels.

You're British, or an Anglophile. You love Jane Austen, and you're totally into fibre arts like knitting. You wear glasses, and your pets have amusing names. You have a really uninteresting job but you make up for it by having a rich inner life.

You're Muslim, or of Muslim/Arabic heritage, living in an English-speaking country (I'm guessing Britain). You love both cultures, and intend to raise your children reflecting that duality. You enjoy tradition and history as well as arts, poetry, music, but form your own opinions about all of them. You are strong-willed, verging on the stubborn, with a feminine side along with a good dose of practicality.

Yes, I am Arab (Mostly Lebanese, with some Yemeni and Syrian). I actually live in Connecticut. I do have great intereset in Religious art (mainly Christian art, as I always found their depictions of God and the prophets very lavish and beautiful).

You're intelligent, stubborn, and like art, but you don't paint/draw anything yourself. You're interested in politics and current affairs and enjoy bike riding.
I love Gwendolyn Naamah, by the way!

You're Muslim, or Arabic, or have those in your background. You really like houses made of brick. You find most people's pets to be badly behaved, on the most part.

Yes, I am Arab (Mostly Lebanese, with Syrian and Yemeni) and Muslim. I'm not sure were you got the brick house part from, as I like mainly New England style homes. Finally, no, I like most pet animals.

I would say that you are proud of your heritage and that you like more traditional names. Which might indicate that you don't want your children to be constantly judged by what their names are.Ps. Samuel Saddam sounds really nice.

I'd still wonder why you were on my side of town, though, because I'd expect you to be classier and live in the rich district.

You're into classical music, and want your (hypothetical) children to learn piano or violin. You read fashion magazines and have white furniture. You are well-travelled and have one of those suitcases with four wheels instead of two. You enjoy bushwalking/trekking.
vote up1
White furniture is very boring to look at and scary when you have pets (like a giant dog) because it gets really dirty. I prefer natural wood and leather furnishings. Also I don't really fashion magazines, I'm more of the jeans, t-shirt, and hiking boots sort of person.I do enjoy classical music and do intend on having my future children learn how to play either piano, harp, or any other stringed instrument.I do also enjoy traveling though I wouldn't call my self well traveled, but out of my friends I am the most traveled.

You're really into clean, classic lines, but with a slight exotic twist. Like calla lilies, those are your thing. That red lipstick looks really good on you.
vote up1
You're sophisticated with simple tastes. If I had to guess, I'd say you have a minimalist approach to home decoration and dress. You value individualism, but not in a way that is TOO out-there or controversial. You would push your kids to be good at something, to succeed instead of just getting by, but you wouldn't be a tiger mom; you know the difference between pushing a little and pushing too much. Good manners are important to you, and cleanliness.

Soul sister sounds about right, hehe. You got pretty much everything correct, I am British, I do like reading Jane Austen, and I am kind of old-fashioned and traditional in some ways (although I'm also quite liberal in many of my views). i am going to start off with "free spirit" :)
I think that you value life and nature. You are excited by time spent outdoors and love to upcycle (either do or think about it) and do things from scratch, whether that is crefting or cooking. You value kindness and your views are liberal. I say that mostly because your names cross naming rules and gender boundaries - so I assume your political views do too. You see meaning in things and that is why you have used a lot of meaning in the names you chose. The idea behind something is far more important than the something itself. I would guess that sometimes you are a bit high-strung or easily overwhelmed, but get rejuvinated by friends and family. You like you be heard - or at least be allowed to get your point across. You would never be happy in an environment in which you had to obey or follow rules without question. I can guess this is because you are used to (and were taught to) question everything. I would guess that you are either from the UK, or have a background there or in a Scottish/Irish country. Mostly because that is the culture represented in your names and it's not likely you would pick a random foreign culture to name your children. Especially since family is so important to you (am guessing that the middle names are honoring). I think that you are practical as well. Honestly, I imagine you as a stay-at-home mom or a part-timer who plans out her meals and knows all the free spots in town. I say that in a good way (totally reminds me of my friend Rachel). Hope that is close!
vote up1
Very close. Almost scarily so. I love the idea of up cycling, but I have a lot more TO upcycle than I've actially done. And almost all of our meals are from scratch. I'm mixed in my political views, though there are some things I'm quite liberal on, and I'm becoming more liberal the older I get. There's teally only one political topic that I'm steadfast conservative in, and that one does go back to valuing life, so there's that. To say I'm easily overwhelmed is an understatement. My family sometimes is the cause of that, but they also helps me refocus. I do like to be heard. Another understatement. But in an introverted way. I question things a lot. But in an introverted way. Like, I'm too scared to make views public, but in private, I'll rant and rave about it. I wasn't raised this way, though. I was raised to just do what I was told to do. I'm from the US. Texas specifically. And, yes, many of the names are honoring, but in a roundabout way.I'm a stay at home mom, too. Nice job!

The mother is the one who calls the shots, the "dominant" one in the relationship. She's slightly hippie-ish, but she has low tolerance for people who do stupid things or rub her the wrong way. People often mistake her directness for bitchiness, until they get to know her better. The father is quiet, mild-mannered, teaches high school, or holds a middle-management job somewhere. The couple is more middle America than they like to think, and their kids are all exceptional in some way, and spend a lot of time doing after-school activities. Lachlan is the black sheep, somehow. That's the impression I get.

Octavia Mary Eleanore would be my daughter.
Ideally I'd like a girl and a boy - but definitely two children - however I'm struggling for good sibling names. All others seem to pale in comparison.

You obviously have beautiful handwriting. Horses love you, but short men from Luxembourg find you really alarming.

You are a very practical person, and you never make a decision without weighing all of the options. I would also guess that you are quite smart, but you never lord that over other people. You are in your twenties, but have loved names since you were young because you cannot help but think about the future. You value strong historical women, and have an English background. You like history and lean towards the Victorian age in style (but not in dress).
I might even venture that you secretly love to read about fairytales and myths. However, you never fancy that the stories are true since you are a very rational person. You believe that appearance and manners are the best impression someone can give, but think that no matter how well-off someone is, the most important value is respect. You liek things to match and sometimes hate new styles in clothing and music that seems to destroy classic styles of the past. I would guess that you also like things that are beautiful (and you would be the kind of person to enjoy wine over beer or liquor). You can be assertive if you really have something to say - but don't always bother. That is bacause you are a very calm person who is usually laid back and at ease.Classiness is important to you (the name you submitted is very classy). I would venture to guess that you also find yourself facinated by the monarchy. Hope I am close!Hmm.
vote up1
Wow, reading this was great! So, I guess I am quite practical but I can also be impulsive. I'd like to say I'm smart without sounding arrogant.I've been seriously into names since my pre-teens and you're right about not being able to stop thinking about the future - especially my future children - but I'm not in my twenties yet!I've got an all-English background, my family is very patriotic and value the monarchy, as do I. History never really used to be my thing but now I've started working with children I've realised how important and fascinating it is for us in the present and for children to get an understanding of for the future.Manners and respect are definitely important to me, and you're correct in saying that I believe nobody is exempt from showing respect - also from receiving it too though.I suppose I'm quite manipulative and passive-aggressive, I can lose my temper quickly when fighting for something that I think is right; but I've also got a laid-back attitude to a lot of things and most of the time if people don't agree with me I won't make a fuss.Matchiness is something I'm not overly bothered about, but you're right in saying that new taste bothers me a little, especially when people seem to chose it over what's traditional and forget their roots.
Thank you for this, I think you were very close! :-)

You obviously like mangoes, are good at pulling faces and always win at board games, but you can't draw alligators.
vote up1
You jest - but your joshing at hit the mark!
I LOVE mangoes. I am very convincing in expression, and can contort my features quite impressively. I do usually win at games, as I am very patient and strategic (and not a good loser). Also - I draw cartoon and comics... and have all my life. But, I do have trouble with animals (such as alligators) that have long snouts. ;)

Let's see..You and your DH are of different cultural backgrounds. I'm guessing one of you is Italian, and one is from some sort of Asian country (?). You like history, and the meaning behind names is important to you. I imagine parents that value the simple things, and have a lot of laughter in their household. Maybe you're a teacher, or some sort of artist? You're a very hands-on parent, and love to travel. Hope I at least got something right :)
vote up1
Well, I'm not going to sugarcoat it: You're not white, and you come from a completely different cultural background than I do. That's the first thing that comes to mind. You're a quiet person who is traditional and wants your children to value tradition, patience, compassion, etc. etc. You are a family-oriented person who doesn't constantly feel the need to stand out; you draw strength from being part of a team. That's all I got. :/
vote up1
Nice. :) Pretty spot on actually. Though, I am technically caucasian. Lots of people think I am Latina, but my background is Italian by blood.
vote up1
I would think you had an interesting mix of cultural backgrounds in your family and I would want to know more about them and what they were (I recognise the 2nd mns as Italian, of course, but the others I'm unfamiliar with). I'd get the impression you were either an international family or a traveling family or both, and I'd think you were my kind of people and want to know more.
vote up1
We are. My parents are Italian, and I was raised in the US... but have lived in both Germany and Ireland for a bit (but travelled all over). My husband is from the Philippines (the first middle names are Filipino), but we met in Cambodia. Firsts are French - just a language and place that I love, and it is the first foreign language I learned (after native English and broken Italian). I find that culture so sophisticated and almost in-your-face stylish. Plus - they have moxie.
vote up1
I think I can tell from this that you're a bit of a globetrotter.
vote up1
It's obvious from reading these names that one of your ears is ever so slightly higher on your head than the other.
vote up1
Ha, well that's actually true. My glasses are always crooked. :)
vote up1
Firstly they say you clearly have fantastic taste ;)Glancing quickly at the lists I'd assume you're British, but a few of the names like Virginia have an American flavour to them so I'd imagine that you're likely to be from the US but have a fondness for Britain and British culture - particularly the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras. I'd guess you like classic literature, you're highly educated, perhaps upper-middle class from a family that's been in the US for quite a long time (maybe with some British ancestry), and you're quite traditional and family-oriented.
vote up1
I'm the most traditional socialist academic you'll ever meet. :)

Upper-middle class mommy blogger with a pack of well-behaved blonde children. Wants to give off a "perfect" image, but struggles from time to time. Not much of a risk-taker. Likes to travel and take her kids with her, to make them worldly. Homeschools the kids while the husband makes six figures at work. Lives in a big house that looks like it's straight from a John Hughes movie.
vote up1
HAHA! But you know that's totally not what I'm like.

You come from a good background and you value strength in family rather than solitude or rebelliousness. For some reason, I think you are religious - but I may be wrong. Your name choices are both traditional - but also simple and refined. For some reason I want to guess that you are from the US, by many generations, but your inclusion of Alfred screams UK to me. Anyway - I would not guess that you have a background in Asian, African or even the Romatic European countries. Education is very important to you, and you prefer simlicity over drama. I would guess that you are a good cook, and tend to do much of the housework (if you are married). I do think you would be the kind of person to get married (if you are not) and would take a lot of joy in being a wife... not just mother. I am going out on a limb and guessing that you majored in the literary or social sciences, rather than in science, math or performance majors. Nothing technical... but rather practical. Very much a Wuthering Heights type pf person. High collar humor and all that. I also think that you dress well and would never go out in your PJs. Your names are both solid and convey class - which means that you come from the middle class or higher. I think you would enjoy going to a brunch over going to a rave. etc.
I might be far off - but hope I am close!
vote up1
I must say that reading that was absolutely delightful. You got a lot of stuff right, but some stuff wrong too. I am not religious, but I am somewhat traditional. I am American, Southern, and I'm getting a PhD in literature. I'm not married, but I want to be. I want kids.

Wow, hard. I would guess that you value culture and meaning - but that you are also young and that your style is constantly evolving. Modern names attract your attention, but you would never use them since they are far too common or ordinary. Instead, you are drawn by things that seem to go against the popular grain - and especially by things that are rebellious. In fact, I woudl go so far to say that you prefer to embrace the truly rare over even the uncommon, let alone ordinary. You are very liberal in your values, and you are well aware of both social and political news. You are also socially active online, I assume. You have many plans, and most of them include travel. While you have not yet met many of your life goals, you have thought about them. Trends facinate you, but you prefer foreign trends rather than those of your own culture. I would also imagine that you like to surprise people and take enjoyment when you know more than they do - which can be often. I don't think you are the kind to be rude about it though. You are self depreciating in your humor, but you do not have low self esteem. I do think most of your world knowlege is factual rather than experience based right now - but you plan to remedy that once you are on your own.
Hope I am close!

You value culture and heritage - and are proud of who you are. Things that are beautiful attract your attention, but you don't put a lot of thought into them. You are social. I am sure you value education as well, but I believe that you are an outgoing person who gains energy from friends and family - rather than from alone time with books, etc. You don't like to wait for things, but concede that sometimes you must. This sometimes makes you impatient with those around you, but never enough that you hurt people's feelings. You value relationships, and think motherhood is how you pass on both the values of your family and the love of it's members. I would venture that you love music too. You especially like music that you can dance to. Because you value family so much, you have no trouble having faith in their successes. You will be the kind of mother that encourages success and brags about their children's every accomplishment. This probably means that you like pictures as well. Your goal is to be seen as sophisticated and responsible, and you love to dress up, but don't do it that often. Hope I am close!

From your names I'd assume you're some flavor of Northern European or have that as a part of your heritage. The names seem very traditional so I'd assume you're more reserved. They seem like strong, well thought out choices. I'd assume you're either into literature or history. I think you'd frequent museums. You seem like you're a homebody, but not in a bad way. It's like home is your sanctuary where you can unwind and just be yourself.

You're right about everything except the museum thing. I dislike museums and haven't been to one for about 4 years (and then I had to, because of school).

You value strong historical characters, especially when you are reading. They entertain you. However, you would prefer that there be a little mystery or intrigue as well. Your names are quite standard, but of the strongest variety. You want to present a sophisticated and elegant front, but believe that everyone should be allowed a little personality. I would assume that you like your middle names the best of the three names each, and that they reflect your heritage and family. You finish with elegant names that befit royalty - so you value success and appearance - but not in a vapid way. I think you might have a small rebelious streak, based on how you spelled Theodor. You know it is a correct spelling but others may not, so you value education and retain information well enough that you tend to know more on many subjects than those around you. I also think that you are not shy, since these names are bold. However, you won't share with people unless you are already close and have their trust. Hope I am close!

True, I guess. :)Your names are quite standard, but of the strongest variety. You want to present a sophisticated and elegant front, but believe that everyone should be allowed a little personality. I guess it's true. I kinda wish I liked more unusual names, bus as I get older I'm realizing that I like quite common namesI would assume that you like your middle names the best of the three names each, and that they reflect your heritage and family. You finish with elegant names that befit royalty - so you value success and appearance - but not in a vapid way. Not true. The first MN is honoring, but it's not the names I like the most in these combos. And I love the second MN's and might as well use them as first names. Not because they sound royal or anything like that, but mainly because I like long namesI think you might have a small rebelious streak, based on how you spelled Theodor. You know it is a correct spelling but others may not, so you value education and retain information well enough that you tend to know more on many subjects than those around you. Not true. Theodor is a standard spelling were I live. Theodore would be more rebellious. I also think that you are not shy, since these names are bold. However, you won't share with people unless you are already close and have their trust. I am quite shy, and I don't really see how these names are bold either :) But you're right about me not sharing names with people I don't trust

I completely failed to take into account that you may be Swedish or something else(Norwegian?). In that case, your names would make you more of a traditionalist who is studious and reserved, but intelligent and responsible. A little late to poffer than now though - since I was totally off-base the first time!
ps - I considered that the middles might be honoring, but rejected the idea based on their origin. My bad (cool family names though!).

I'd expect you to be a little crunchy...organic, baby wearing, breast feeding, essential oil using momma. But not in the in-your-face way. Like, you'd have no problem whipping out a boob to feed your kid in public, but you're not going to go on a tirade about the evils of formula or breastfed your 8 year old as she sits in the shopping cart while you continue grocery shopping.
vote up1
That's so me! I'm still figuring out how to use essential oils. And I wouldn't go on a tirade. All I ask is a parent does what is in the best interests of themselves and their child (but mainly their child) and sometimes that's not baby wearing or breastfeeding.Thank you!

You don't like a lot of frill and prefer discussions based on fact rather than fancy. I imagine that you are both thrify and clever when it comes to recycling, and you are environmentally conscious. You enjoy simple things and believe that a child brings personality to a name rather than the other way around. You like myths and history, but believe that they are an escape rather than a way of life. You are a lot of fun, because you enjoy the whimsical and colorful - yet you can be very assertive when it comes to your beliefs on human rights, child-rearing and politics (the latter you prefer not to talk about). I would say that you enjoy the outdoors and think children should be very active as well as focus on learning. Tradition is not very important to you, as you value reason and experience over it. You believe that, given new evidence, every opinion can be changed and that we should be more focused on how we feel and treat each other than the structure behind it. You also have a weakness for things that are cute or smell nice - and love games and puzzles.
Those are the human characteristics of your names to me. Hope I am close!
vote up1
I think frill has a time and a place. I'm thrifty. I love to recycle and feel guilty if I don't. I'm a bit of a minimalist and do enjoy simple things. If I'm honest, I pride myself on my lack of possessions. I could easily pack all of my personal belongings into a carry on.I'm into art and exploring various cultures so myths and history tie into that perfectly.I do like to think I'm fun. Though, I'm not as much fun as I used to be. I have my niece a few weeks a month and she has put a real damper on the spontaneity.I think the outdoors are amazing. I grew up on a farm and was always allowed to roam the hills as I pleased from an early age. I think it helps to instill a sense of independence and a love of nature in children. I allow K, my niece, to come and go as she pleases within the area around my home. It would be a different story though if I were situated near other homes, a road, or any water.Education is a huge deal to me. I may not support all traditional methods but I will always encourage people to learn. I try to learn something new everyday. Are there people who don't love cute things or things that smell nice?! I also like puzzles and things that make me think. You did an awesome job. Do I know you? lol

I would assume these names were chosen by a young, single mother in her late teens or early twenties who doesn't fit the mold when we think of the young, single mother stereotype. Maybe she's a bit more educated than we think (attending university, or planning to), maybe she's not "chavvy", as the Brits would say, but her life took a U-turn and she started having kids young and she gave them the names SHE wanted. I don't see any male input in these names, at all; they just scream "young girl finding her way" to me. :/

You read a lot, or wish you could. I imagine that you know your Shakespeare, but also enjoy a good historical fiction piece. You read blogs and either do upcycle or plan to someday. I can imagine that you encourage lots of outdoor play when you are around children, and you also have a high regard for music. I imagine that you put a lot of thought into flow and meaning in names, but you also consider history and usage. Your first names are based on sound mostly and how they make you feel, while your middle names are nostalgic of your heritage or current culture. Your second middles are a little more fanciful and, thus, based on the styles and things you enjoy (classics, powerful women in history and fairytales/myths). The fact that many of the firsts are traditional names that are not necessarily in common use tells me that you value the past and focus on the big picture in your personal life, rather than in the moment. I would bet that you have long-term goals and are just at the beginning of reaching them. I also think you value strength in men and grace in women, simply from the feel of your sets. However, I would imagine that you are more into chilvalrous strength and women who have grace yet are defiant. You know about the bible, but are not necessarily religious... and you can be assertive in any of your beliefs and opinions (I say this because your names are consonant based, not vowel-based). Hope I am close!

Have we met? That was scary close.Only thing you were way off base with is the Shakespeare - cant stand the stuff. But I have my nose in a book at every opportunity and historical novels are my favourite! Also, I don't think I do particularly value strentgh in men and grace in women- I'm very much there's no such thing as boy things and girl things, and I'd probably extend "boy" traits and "girl" traits. I do mostly prefer names that are clearly boy or clearly girl, so that could be what gives that impression, but it's not intentional I just generally find I don't like most unisex names and I definitely don't like masculine sounding names on girls, mainly because I feel like the girls have so much choice already whereas the pool of boys names is getting smaller and smaller (and it never goes the other way, its always from boy to girl). I feel like it's placing value on traditional masculine traits like strength, and trying to apply them to your girl and I think girls can have plenty of strentgh in their own right. Not religious at all but was raised as such so do know my bible stories. I don't go looking for biblical names but I also don't avoid them. And most of my names are based on either places I've been to an experiences they remind me of, or people that they remidn me of. There's almost no names that are there simply because I just like them. I have plenty of names on my list that are there just because I like the look, sound, or meaning but almost all of the ones I would actually use have personal significance as well. So a ton of thought goes ion the combos and they all have layers of meaning to them!So pretty spot on, especially about the long term goals and being on the verge of reaching them!

That's quite a few kids! You have great taste. I'll be back here a bit later to post on each of them.Their names would make me think you were more varied in your interests and preferences. I'd think your style or life situation had changed as you had children. I'd think you were easy going and flexible. You'd sound like a lot of fun. I'd assume you were outgoing, a life of the party type but with some reservations.
vote up1
Yes I wouldn't actually have that many, I just couldn't narrow it down. I'm thinking 4 or 5 max, and only if I can adopt a couple of them (I'm Australian, so that's easier said than done). And yes, that's true about the variation! I have an eclectic range of interests and tastes in things like clothes too.I've spent the last four years living in and traveling Europe. I think that's partly why I have such an eclectic taste (most of the names I listed remind me of a place or places I've been to) and partly why I am flexible. Traveling does that to you, especially once you start getting to some of the more out the way countries that are harder to travel around (I'm thinking of the Eastern Europen and African countries that I've visited here).
vote up1
Oh, wow! Such an eclectic collection. I'm in a rush, here, so I can't go through each name individually to say what I think. Definitely interesting, though. I would assume the parents were young, modern, creative Americans who have travelled Europe somewhat extensively, or plan to in the future, and they want their kids to be free-spirited, polite, and well-educated.
vote up1
Spot on about the extensive traveling part! 49 countries and counting (most of the European!) and thats exactly the impression I'd want my kids names to give. But I'm Australian :) Otherwise, nailed it!

British, a Game of Thrones fan, or both. Not too traditional, given the spellings, you're fairly willing to put modernity or whimsy over tradition. The type of person who has fun in understated, whimsical ways, like exploring an old castle and gardens, finger painting with your kids, or wandering through a street food market. Definitely family-oriented, but more devoted to your immediate family than extended. I see you more at home in a smaller town in the countryside than the city, although there may be one or two cities that have a special place in your heart.
vote up1
I'd assume the person was British, first off. A little snobby, but overall a very nice person. Likes tradition. I also get kind of a Pinterest mom vibe from them together.
vote up1
I will guess that you are from the UK. You like nicknames, though you will use full names on paper. You are well-read, but not very old. I imagine you went to college, too. You may still be in college. I could see a someone who is a teacher liking these names. I also think that your middle names are honoring, but I cannot decide if it is family or from something you read. In any case, you enjoy things that are cutesy (versus earthy or serious) and color. Sorry my profiling is not more detailed, these names were hard for me... and I may be totally off altogether!
vote up1
British. Young, but not TOO young. An average couple who likes and appreciates whimsy, but doesn't force it. They are both satisfied with their lives, but are looking for something more, and will always be hungry for new experiences and knowledge. Non-confrontational people who want everything to go smoothly. Teach their kids the value of hard work and compromise.

This is exactly the sort of impression we'd hope to give. Thanks a lot!

I'm a bit unsure because the two names are so different. Maisie and Arthur work well together but Catelyn throws me off.About all I can get from the names are that you're in the UK! Maisie Catelyn makes me think you're a bit lower on the rungs but Arthur William boosts it a bit. You'd sound young, not teen young but in your 20's. Maisie would make me think you're a bit more fun. Arthur makes me think you quite like to read.
vote up1
I'm surprised so many people think Maisie and Arthur are so different in style, I always seem to lump them together! I suppose Margaret and Arthur or Maisie and Artie make more obvious sets. You're not far off though, we're late 20s and love reading. I'd love to explain where Catelyn comes from but I'll see if I get any more responses first.
vote up1
A Song of Ice and Fire? :) Do you pronounce it CAT-lyn like they do in the show?

It's not Maisie and Arthur together that threw me off. It was the Catelyn. Maisie and Arthur go great together.
vote up1
I see. Silly me!
vote up1
I get entirley different impressions from each name and I'd be surprised if I found the two had been named by the same parents, or, like Ninor said, one parent had had more say in one name than they had in the other. Maisie and Arthur William (which is terribly handsome, by the way) I can kind of see together, but Catelyn throws it off entirely!
vote up1
I would assume that you were living in the UK, mainly because of Maisie. And I would also assume that one parent had more say in the girls name, and less with the boy, since they are quite different in style. I love Arthur William btw.

yes, we're in Scotland :) I guess my spelling of honourable probably helped you there as well. It might surprise you but one parent (me) has had about 99% say in all of these names.

Fun, upbeat, cheerful, quirky.

You liked swings as a child and hate turnips, and grey really suits you. During the next full moon there'll be a fox in your garden.

You're southern. You love eating chicken in a variety of ways, and you want a house in the country. Maybe you've got a mason jar on the windowsill that you fill with extra change - it's the house-in-the-country fund. You love the colour blue, like that really pure heartbteakingly clean sky blue. I bet you've got your great-grandmother's recipe for some kind of pie in your possession. You totally own a gun.

You like old-fashioned things. I would guess that you are well read, but prefer stories that are both intellectually humorous, but also have quirky characters. My guess as to your favorite era would be the 30s or 50s, but I lean towards the 50s. Mostly because both Minnie and Billie were in cinematic vogue then. I can imagine you as retro. You use of alliteration in both names tells me that you are a linguist and have a penchant for things that flow, especially in music and poetry. The fact that all of the names you chose are both simple and classics, tells me that you value history and usability in names and in life (meaning that you try to get the use out of everything, maybe you are crafty?). Anyway, I also think you have a distinctive voice (audibly) with a higher tone, simply because both Minnie May and Billie Joe would sound silly on someone who has either a raspy voice or a low tone (like me). I almost wonder if you are from the UK too. Hmm, I should pay more attention, because that is likely something you have mentioned before. Classic, fun, outgoing, but intelligent. That is my summary. Hope I am close!

You are so right it's scary!I love old-fashioned stuff. You were so close on eras! Yes I like the 1950s my 2nd favourite is the 1940s and my tops the 1960s (JFK, NASA etc. I'm obsessed!). So I like retro stuff. I write music and stuff so your right on that one. I love history (One of my mottos is: you must learn from the past to make a better future. After all it created the world to be how it is today.). Also the use ability of names is important. I wouldn't call my children some thing way out there but it mustn't be too popular, unique but classic if that makes sense. I do try to be crafty etc. but I frankly can't draw or be crafty it just ends up as unrecognisable a mess.Yes my voice is rather weird. Like words like sorry my accent goes kinda american and I focus on the re sound. Don't get me started on my laugh. My friends say it sounds like I'm crying or I just go really high pitched and almost scream.
Yep I'm from the UK. I'm a country girl really.Classic, fun, outgoing, but intelligent is almost right.
I'm more: Classic, quiet, shy but (hopefully) intelligent. You are so good at this!

I would assume this is a single, teenage girl with a Green Day obsession. Even if I didn't already know this about you, the Billie Joe would make me think that, since I've been listening to Green Day since 1994. :/As for Minnie May Rose...I would think these names were honoring older relatives. Maybe the May was thrown in there for no reason, but Minnie and Rose would make think, "She wants to honor both of her grandmothers."
vote up1
Yeah single teenage girl obsessed with Green Day is right. But I love the name Billie Joe, well I do think of him as an inspiration as well. (It's not what you think like about drugs etc. The fact he has mental health conditions but still does what he loves and has proven to me even how anything is possible if you put in enough effort.) No its not in honour of anyone I just love the names. Although May is my middle name which my mum gave me because it was my great nan's middle name.

Billie Joe Jason -- Pretty much screams Green Day to me. I would expect the parents to be young, maybe musicians, and very into punk/rock music. Minnie May Rose -- Gives me a southern vibe. I would imagine Minnie to have parents that dress her up in bows and dresses, and that they were lower-to-middle class. I think May Rose is very sweet, though a bit tired in the middle spot. I would maybe think she was named after family members.

If dresses probably red, black or tartan. Yeah I guess I'm lower to middle class. May is my middle name and it was my great nans middle name also. I just love the name Minnie and I think Rose flows well with the name.

My second combo would be:Edie Ingrid Gloria and Indio Edwin Leo

My first impression would be that you're pretty young. The alliteration in the names makes me think you're probably the life of the party.
vote up1
Yep I'm young but certainly not the life of the party. I'm more like the quiet, kinda nerdy, kinda girl.

I think Minnie is sweet, but May and Rose are super filler-y, and Minnie May is way too cutesy and informal. Billie Joe Jason makes me cringe a little bit, because of the blatant reference to Billie Joe Armstrong (I'd assume that even without your signature!). I'd assume the parents were terribly young and perhaps hadn't made it to college/university. Planning to name your child entirely after a living celebrity is a very "young" thing to do, I think, and I always worry about quite how much the parents will end up regretting it.
vote up1
I agree Minnie May Rose doss sound a little too cutesy but I just like the combo. Also yes I agree on your about about the celebrity reference and stuff.
My mum was 29 and my dad was 33 when I was born and they both went to the local college.

Wait, I don't get it? I was referring to the theoretical parent(s) of Billie Joe Jason and Minnie May Rose, which I assumed was you?

Oops sorry weren't paying attention. Sorry! :)

That's hard. Where you're from changes everything here.Minnie May Rose - I like it. It's a bit flowery but not floral. Or maybe cutesy would be a better word.Billie Joe Jason - I can't get behind Billie Joe Jason at all. My first thought is he has bad teeth and is unkempt. If you were from the US with your name choices I'd assume you aren't very well educated, that maybe you're some small town girl who got married straight out of school and for whom having babies is an accident. I'd think you a bit nosy since in small towns everybody knows everybody else's business. You'd be religious, probably Baptist. If you're not from the US then it's a completely different story. I'd think you were English, middle class, probably from a larger city. You'd have gotten married after finishing university and waited a while to have children. You'll have spent your time with your friends and going on short holidays with your partner. I'd assume you were down to earth and really enjoyed your time being a mother.

Interesting... Are you from the UK? I ask, because I am, and I definitely don't agree with the idea of being English and middle class, at least with Billie Joe Jason. Minnie May Rose I could see it. Funny seeing the differences of opinion :)
vote up1
I'm not. I'm from the US. And you're right. Billie Joe Jason isn't middle class at all but I was thinking of Minnie May Rose as though it were.

Yep an English country girl. I live in the rural countryside in a small cottage (saying that I sound way to british).

What I would assume: - Living in the US south
- Listen to country music
- Is all about "the american dream"
- Uneducated parents

- Living in the US south - English girl.
- Listen to country music - No I only really listen to Green Day.
- Is all about "the american dream" - Yeah kinda I guess.
- Uneducated parents - Not uneducated but they didn't go to university. Although they both went to the local college.

It's obvious from these names that you once escaped from a Turkish prison using only an emery board and a shoe-lace. Also, you can wiggle your eyebrows.

Your parents were working class, and always had big dreams for you. You're a college grad and you work in an office. You like pencil skirts and really good coffee. You're a bit critical of others, but that's just because you're super smart and most other people are usually total morons. You have long dark hair and your favourite colour is a really off-putting shade of green.

-They ARE working class, but as far as having big dreams for me? Nah. They never expected me to be anything but average. You're a college grad and you work in an office.
-No, and no. I'm a cook in a nursing home kitchen. :) You like pencil skirts and really good coffee.
-To this day I'm still not exactly sure what a pencil skirt is, but I DO like good coffee. You're a bit critical of others, but that's just because you're super smart and most other people are usually total morons.
-I AM a bit too critical of others. Not sure about the second part. :P You have long dark hair and your favourite colour is a really off-putting shade of green.
-I DO have long, dark hair (thinking of cutting it, actually), but my favorite color is red. :)

I'd think... someone somewhat religious, friendly, lives fairly simply... Doesn't care about flashy things. Hardworking. Sticks to their values. That's the impression I get.

Well, from the classic Biblical firsts, I would assume that you either were brought up in the church or that you now attend. They are considered traditional as well, so I imagine both the history and the meaning of a name matters to you. Both the story of Leah, the elder sister, and Nathan, the prophet, are about characters who were used by God to fulfill a purpose even though they were not crazy about it - yet they were honored in history for their part in it. This tells me that you value (cognizantly or not) success and importance, but don't feel like your children will have to become superstars or prodigies to succeed. A great balance of expectations. The middle names you chose seem like honoring names to me. I would guess that you have family members you want to be remembered. I base that on the fact that Michael is quite common, and usually used in reference to other people. So, it follows reason that Frances is honoring too. The fact that you chose names not based on popularity, but meaning, tells me that you are well educated as well as responsible. Since you didn't list nicknames... I am going to also assume that you are thrifty and logical. No idea why. ;)hope I am close!
vote up1
You got some things right. It's funny how everyone assumes I would be religious, since I don't attend church. Honestly, I forget that Leah and Nathan are Biblical names, and I'm only vaguely aware of the story of Leah. I just like the way Biblical names sound, I guess. The part about Leah and Nathan reluctantly filling roles that needed to be filled? That's interesting to me. I feel like it says something about myself, because I often feel like the responsible one who has to do what needs to be done. My work isn't glamorous, but it's important, and someone has to do it. So maybe these particular name choices strike a chord in me, even if I don't know it.It's also funny how everyone assumes I'm well-educated. I'm a junior college dropout! Pretty low on the educational totem pole, but hey, I'm not going to complain about giving off an educated impression. It's not a BAD thing at all. :)As for being thrifty and logical...well, I'm definitely thrifty, and I like to think of myself as logical. I'll agree with that.

I guess I meant to say that you value education. I don't consider success at college a good indicator... but I would still guess that you did well in high school. I personally value education highly, but faltered a lot in school because I felt like there were more important things to do than homework. Yet - I happne to carry a lot more factual and useful knowledge than many of my peers. Though - i totally see how I was off on that one. It's funny how you don't attend church, but those characters are perfectly described in you second paragrph there. I wonder - did you ever attend? Only because I taught on Nathan last week, and I know that he often was the one telling people the way it should be or correcting their mistakes just because it had to be done. And, I always felt bad for Leah, being second best to her sister Rachel - but clearly also being responsible and forgiving.
vote up1
No, I never attended church. Both of my parents were raised Catholic, but they chose not continue the tradition with their kids. I think they both struggled with their faith in a big way; it was one of the few things they had in common.I didn't do particularly well in high school, either. I passed, but I hated it so much I did the bare minimum for graduation and left it at that. I always struggled with math, and to a lesser extent, science. I loved to read, and I became something of an autodidact, but I was never a star student.

I would imagine the parents to be traditional, down-to-earth, and maybe religious.

Neither name is particularly my style, but I find them both classic and understated, and they're definitely the kind of names I can appreciate. I would assume the parents were well-educated, mature, and grounded, perhaps with a smidge of religious tendencies.

Leah Frances - Love Leah and Frances. A sweet, classic name.Nathan Michael - I find Nathan and Michael bland but they're classics. With your choices of names I'd assume you were middle class, career oriented, and valued education highly. Maybe you'd be involved in a few causes, some superficially. If I were to just hear your kid's names I'd think of you as a vanilla, middle class soccer mom type.
vote up1
The vanilla, soccer mom thing is funny, since I don't even want kids. This thread is very interesting.

Yeah, it's fun to see the various things that come to mind for people when they see the names you'd choose. Even more so when they're nothing like you'd perceive it to be.

I don't know where this impression comes from so I may be well off the mark but I would guess you come from a close family background and you hope for your children to very grounded and possibly that you understand the value of working hard and appreciate what you earn from that.
vote up1
Actually, you are the one who is closest to the mark. I am not a religious person, and neither is my husband; we value education but neither of us finished college (I went to a junior college for several years but didn't finish; he never went at all.) We both value hard work and we like to think of ourselves as grounded. I'd say your assessment is spot-on. :)
