Variations of Bridget/Brigitte/Brigid
I know technically you can spell a name however you want and pronounce it however you want but if someone wanted to prounounce their name with a hard G and a long E at the end (Bri as in igloo G as in Gary E as in E-mail, Da as in duh (lol), how would you spell it? Wanting to use this pronounciation for a middle name so not as important but I don't want my child going her whole life with me thinking I spelled her name wrong. I like the look of Brigida, Brigitta makes me think it would be pronounced with a soft G like the french actress... unsure of the best way to spell it. (Leaning towards Brigida because I like the D sound better than T) Then there is also Brighida so idk. Opinions please?

I'd have thought that Brigitte (usually French) would have two syllables (bri ZHEET) and Brigitta (German and Scandinavian) three (bri GEE ta), but the name seems to attract spellings and pronunciations that don't match. I've known a couple of Brigitte people and a Bridgette who all sounded like Bridget. But, as you say, mns don't get said much and anyway you'll tell your daughter what her name sounds like and is spelt like and why.

I live in the western US. I'd say Brigida "Brih-JEE-da" and Brigitta "Brih-JEE-ta."
If it were a first name (and you live where people talk like I do) I'd say spell it Brighida, to try to force people accustomed to Bridget and Brigitte to say a hard G. But since it's a middle name, and the errors of others don't have so much potential to drive her up the wall - I say go with Brigida. I think it's the nicest form of the name.

Actually, with the G sound that you want... almost any of the spellings work. Brigitta is my favorite spelling, but I do like Brigida. Brighida is too much I think. Brigita is the only other possibilty that I think you could pull off. Any of those choices could reasonably be pronounced breh-gee-dah (g as in game).

so you are wanting to pronounce it Bridge-eet-ah?I'd spell it Brigitta. I would pronounce it with a soft G sound, but it makes total sense with a hard G too and I wouldn't be surprised to meet someone who pronounced their name that way. Brigid in my mind is pronounced "BRIED" but I have heard it pronounced Bridge-id. Brighid is always "BRIED", I'd find it strange to hear either name pronounced like Bridget.
